96 sierra steering responsiveness help

I have a lot of slack in my steering and can find out how to get rid of it. Any advice is appreciated! also my brakes aren't very responsive either, you have to push them nearly to the floor to stop...I've tried bleeding them and I replaced them. Funny thing is is that I'm a hydraulic mechanic and can't figure this one out.
