I have a 92 Lx 5.0, in the process of upgrading. Gonna go with Afr heads(165), E303 cam, usual 1.6 roller rockers, 70mm TB and spacer, whats the best intake for steet use? Been out of the 5.0 scene for a while. If it matters, it's a vert with an automatic,TCI saturday nite special converter, 3.08 gears. Soon to be 3.73's. What's best?

With that cam and those heads I'd suggest a Cobra or GT40 intake with some mild port work. Or you could step up to a nice TFS or Edelbrock intake, something around the track heat or performer series.

A GT40/Cobra intake would work well but then I advise hunting out a 96 Explorer intake exact same part just a lot cheaper.
If your going AFR heads I would move away from Ford intakes and look at TrickFlow, Edlebrock, Holley etc.., The ports sizes match up better without having to do port work and will maximize your heads a lot more.
I'd favor the TFS the Holley is huge and seems best suited for small cubed FI engines. The TFS trackheat is very nice and the ports match up to AFR's very well. Edelbrock Performer RPM I or II would work fine too.
Ask around about cams, the alphabet cams are rather dated and there are a quite a few superior off the shelf grinds available.

While this is true, in the right application the abc cams are a great bang for the buck. Another popular camshaft for 5.0 guys is the Crane 2031.

They are not bad but for the $20-$30 more dollars for some of Crane/Comp/Isky etc.., of the shelf grinds is money well spent.
But nothing wrong with the alphabet cams by any means

The Gt-40 intake will handle 450 horse while the Cobra will handle 400.

I'm making over 600fwhp with a performer rpm intake. While I'm sure its not real efficient it works none the less. I'm just wondering where you get your information. The intake wont be a very big limiting factor in this type of build.

Ah, I see. Summit and their hp quotes.. To be honest with you the best intake for this build in my opinion would be the track heat. It has nice long runners that will provide plenty of torque, yet it is opened up enough to be pretty efficient under 500fwhp. After the mid 400fw range I would suggest the Holley intake or a single plane carb intake converted to EFI.

Cobra, GT40, Explorer intakes are all the exact same intake inside but different outward appaearances. They have been tested over and over again to flow within 3CFM of each other.

Thanks for all the replies, but I did forget to mention that I'm gonna try to make this pass NJ emissions, so I'm leaning towards TF street heat. As far as the cam selection, I have to do a little more research, I just picked up a set of 1.7 roller rockers.

if your buying based on that then you better put a dart shortblock on the list
