Brake Disc Removal (cannot remove)

I have a '98 Blazer 4WD and decided to do the rear brakes which have been calling my attention for the past two weeks.

I removed the calipers and brackets on both rear wheels and found I could not remove the brake discs. They wobble on the hub but will not move more than 3/8" or so down the lugs. I persuaded them with a small sledge several times and no luck. I thought after pouring through my Chilton's that I might have an emergency brake cable tensioned and or stuck but when I went to de-tension the cable I broke it. Alright!!! The problem still exists on both discs. I simply cannot remove them. One is beyond service so I don't dare mount new pads and head for the hills. I'm down. No vehicle.

Any suggestions? Please.

Thanks, Paul

The primary adjustment for the parking brake shoes is inside the drum near the top. The adjuster on cable does the rest of the adjustment. There is probably a ridge inside the parking brake drum that is not allowing the rotor/drum to come off. Your options are exhausted at this point. Pry the rotor off and plan on replacing the parking brake shoes.
