Around Dallas we have your average run-of-the-mill Crown Vic's, but I've seen a few of these stealthy bastards roaming around that look similar to this:
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/7854/swps1934120010240pd7.jpg
And on a few rare ocassions I'll see these on the highway, which at the moment usually cause my balls to shrink up into my stomach.

Well, I couldn't find any pictures of the "local" police in my area... and since I only work in downtown Pittsburgh, I didn't think it was fair to represent their police as "mine"... so I went with the PA State Troopers. Most are crown vics (which, if I may say so myself, do VERY well at high speeds... police package > regular vics). In the rural areas, they still have Cherokees.
Here they are from the rear... they added the black and gold stripes in 04. It is WONDERFUL to see them so well... I mean, no one wants to hit a state trooper. ;) Or pass them at 20 over the speed limit

In the city they drive Crown Vics and I've seen a couple old Dodge Shadows that I think have been relegated to the "parking police".The county sheriffs also use Crown Vics and also use some Chevy pickups and SUVs. The suburban police departments tend to use Impalas and Crown Vics. Haven't seen any Chargers in use yet. My first impression was "Wow!" That's a fresh change from the ordinary police vehicles you see everyday.

Basically slick top crown vics.
State Police also have the Camaro and Charger.
Our local police station has a badass Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) with a battering ram attached to it donated by West Point for whatever reason. They flaunt it, still painted in camo in the middle of the department parking lot. (not that there will ever be a need for it)

Las Vegas Metro (http://www.lvmpd.com/bureaus/tourist_police.html) uses white Crown Vics, Expeditions, and Kawasaki Police 1000s.
Nevada Highway patrol has black Crown Vics and F150s.
They both each run an array of unmarked cars of all sorts.
San Barnardino (California) County Sheriff had white Crown Vics, but one time I saw one black Infiniti Q45. That was weird.

does anyone know what these crown vic's have under the hood? i know with the caprices and camaros they have the LT1. but Ford is unknown to me.
They're "Police Interceptors". The cop across the street says they have about 15HP over the stock version, which doesn't seem like much but they also have a set of gears in the rear end which gives them more acceleration than stock. Beefier suspension, etc are also part of the package.

Holden Commodore Executive (General Duties)
Holden Commodore SV6 (Highway Patrol)
Hyundai Sonata (Currently under trial for General Duties)
Holden JS Vectra (Urban General Duties)
Holden Rodeo (Offroad and dog-handling)
Ford Transit (Paddy wagon)
Volkswagen LT (Department of Corrections Paddy wagons)
Plus there are probably a few Maximas and AU Falcons left over from the late 90's.
Thanks for doing what I was too lazy to do
Now post pics of each one.

I'll buzzkill you straight into banland if you like.
That DARE car's pretty cool.
What about the really unusual police vehicles people see around the streets?

i showed the pics to my friend on my phone today at school, he says the DARE car in his town's nicer, has some nice pinstriping and a mustang V8, among other goodies. Looks like i'll have to stake out for a squad car in Stony Point!

Cops in Tallahassee drive anything unmarked. My friend got pulled over by an unmarked Xterra a few years ago. I saw a Cadillac Catera with lights in the grille on I-10 before, and a beautiful unmarked Charger during the summer. I've heard stories of being flagged by pickup trucks, minivans, everything. Its crazy here :screwy:
But in Chicago they just switched their fleets from Crown Vics to Impalas and Tahoes in the city. Lots of suburbs are switching to Impalas and a few even use Chargers as primary squad cars. The rich suburbs should get Chrysler 300s. That would be funny
