4L60E Torque Converter Question

What is the stall speeds of a torque converter, what does that mean?

when your engine is running, the crank, flywheel and everthing else inside is rotating constantly. the only time the engine is not rotating is when its turned off. but if the engine is rotating, what keeps the wheels from rotating when you're stopped at a stoplight? the torque converter (TC). the torque converter will allow the engine to spin freely until a certain amount of RPM is reached. this is the stall speed. at that rpm, the wheels are forced to spin along with the engine.

stall speeds are always approximate, becuase it actually depends on a lot of factors like vehicle weight, engine power, tire size, rubber, etc.

The stall speed, by definition, is the RPM the converter will be able to hold without engaging the tranny when there is 0 movement... AKA when using a trans brake. That's the reason why say a 3200 stall my only be able to brake stall to 3000, give or take depending on the car, because the brakes can only hold so much.

If you've dyno'd your car, then you want to pick converter RPM to be at your peak torque if you want the best launches.
