The Hype on US Evo VIII

ok, i keep hearing all of this hype on the evo VIII that it will be this and it will be that. it won't be anymore different than a VII with the exception of this mythical 6spd tranny which if it pulls through may be nice. the problem i have with the VIII is the venting the overall front lip/grill appeal and the fact that everyone and their momma thinks they will get 275-285hp out of it. i would like to remind you guys that we live in the STATES and that is most likely not to happen, expect a heavier car with less power output. me and my friend agreed that the headlights are despicable at least from the VIII that we saw in R&T, they look like someone hired their 2 year old cousin to draw a block with circles in it. also might i add from one post that i read about the "ALTEZZAS," ThATS EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE ALTEZZA LIGHTS NOT EVO, KEEP THOSE ON LEXUS DON'T BRING THAT SHIT TO EVO, altezza's are gay rice lights that just fuck up cars anyway, unless it's on a lexus where they are meant to be, don't brag about clear lights on a VO. i guess really the only thing that would make me get the VIII is the 6spd but even then it's not worth it, with all the other advantages the VII has with a 5spd, and it's really not that big of a deal. plus i have a hardtime finding dog engagement sequential gears for 6spd's, and do you people know what those ratios are looking like on the 6? i figure if a 6spd tranny was that important i would either get a custom one or just say fuck-it. as far as asking your dealer, they don't ever know shit about the car till it arrives 98% of them aren't car enthusiast like we are, they get their commision and go home for a bj. they could careless about these kinds of things, so please don't base your info on the dealers words seeing as their favorite phrase is "ummmmmm i don't know" (unless its ferrari, most beemer dealers, and i have to say audi because they are my fav). in my opinion im guaranteeing a fucked up power to weight and when you see a blue VII with bronze volks blow by with these out the window :flipa: you might feel that you made a mistake.

i agree with most that you say but im not sure on the weight to power ratio, id say that everyone should keep their opinions to themselves cause no one knows for sure.......and by the way, you wont be blowin by me when im in white VII with volk SE37's and a super 16G under my hood. :flipa:

why do these tools come in here to give us thier opinion based on absolutly nothing at all. you have no idea hat your talking about buddy, why would they send the car over heavier, and "alot" slower? that would defeat the purpose of the car itself. if you caqre to look at the trend of cars coiming into the us, youd see that they all are coming with more hp, and ussually a 6 speed tranny. ie. celica, supra, stealth(nolonger), 3000gtvr4(nolonger), tiberon, mr2, etc. thy have more hp now, and the fact is the evo will most like;y have less hp that a jspec, but not in the form you are thinking of. it will only have like 7 hp less mostly because of strickt us emissions. and why would they make it heaavier? theres no reason to. from that aspect it will most likely be the same, or even less that the j-spec... they charge to ship these cars by how heavy they are, it would be completely against mitzu's usrpose to send that thing here heavier. btw, your a fucking moron.

ok, RT turbo i really don't have to use name calling in my response to make you freel like an ass. number one i said it WOULD have less hp than the j-spec evo. yes i did say ALOT slower and by that i mean at least .5 shaved from the car. number 2 you going on and on about 6spd trannies doesn't really mean shit, because they have 6spds in the UK, sorry to tell you, but your implications seem to lead towards the US only getting 6's. another thing about your "MORE" hp statement, S4,MR2-T,240's,WRX(REGULAR NOT STI), and so on and so on. DID NOT come to us with more hp. if you think 250 is more than 227 i'm sorry buddy you need to go back to grade school. the only credit i will give to you is the weight it could be the same it might not be but YOU don't know what it will be. America always get's dicked out of HP compared to J-spec and also cars shipped to the UK and other foreign countries, so don't lay this we get cars with more hp when you don't have the cars to back the statement up. oh and about the big 16g, that's nice and all but i'm going T04R or 3037 with 900cc injectors full flow-out and i'm getting the ports shaved and re-arranged. we already have the configuration mapped and set out on autocad, but i guess the specs are for me to know and you to find out if we cross paths.

If alot of u guys take a look at the success of the wrx then u really wouldn't care if the evo was missing maybe 10-15hp, i have been reading a looking all over the net and for the wrx's a slightly larger intercooler,ECU,K&N drop in,Exhuast and like 2 pulleys made them something like 230 at the wheels:flash:,(about $1000 only) i was shocked to see how huge of a power gain u could get outta those! So i imagine that if the evo comes over with few less hp than it don't matter to me cuz with most turbo charged cars gaining hp is fairly easy (eclipse GS-T anybody?) to do, if it does come over with less hp than it'll be cheaper too.

What none of you all seem to undersatand is that the lancer evo will prob have the same to more power here in the U.S. you see over in Japan they have this little policy about no production car having over 280 hp.

If you dont beleve me look at the supra the rz in japan is only 280 hp the same car here in the U.S. even with the emissions laws was 315hp.

Well i think many of us are aware of the HP law in japan. Manufacturers just basically underate thier cars like nissan for example. The Skyline GTR series has always been heavily under-rated in hp and so has the evo's and gto's,supras,rx-7 etc..., its just when the supras and rx7 came to the states they really actually didn't have much more hp than thier jspec models but instead they were rated closer to thier real hp. The evo8 is a different story though, in japan they have the evo7 and the evo8 was announced basically cuz they're gonna bring the evo to the us. The u.s. evo will be heavily modified and adjusted to the u.s. (bumper mod)market. If it means redesigning the ECU and restricting the exhuast to meet smog regulations then it will be done. Which is what happend to the WRX. But those are the easiest parts to work with people! A unichip,turbo-back exhuast and intake (all bolt on) is all an evo needs to untap the jspec horsepower (well thats all a wrx needs).

yeah, that japanese policy of 280PS (which is about 276 of USA HP) is all smoke and mirrors, as i've been told by folks at RalliArt that the Evolution 6.5 from the factory makes a true PS rating more in the neighborhood of 290-something.

however, i've heard from corporate people who've already driven it that the USA Evolution VIII will be rated at a true 265HP. not too shabby; it'll definately be competitive with the upcoming US spec STi.

the VIII will be unveiled at the LA Auto Show in January 03 and be in dealer showrooms on February 8 (Evo 8 ha ha). gentlemen, start your checkbooks...

:uhoh:

the supratt, 3000gt vr4, and 300zxtt all came to the US with more HP than their japanese counterparts. I don't think the evo will be severely detuned. It certainly wont be slow, and it CERTAINLY wont be heavier. There are rumors that we wont get the AYC. It might be replaced with a mechanical LSD, which would shave a good 100 lbs off the wieght of the car. Why are making such a big deal about the tranny? Who cares if its a 5 or 6 speed? I certainly don't. IF thats going to be what causes you to get an STI, you're a tool. 6 speeds isn't going to decide jack shit. And a To4r turbo? are you a supra guy or something? You go ahead and get that turbo upgrade for your supra. I'll spend the same amount of money on an evo. We can set up a day at a road course and see who does better. Evos aren't about big power. They are about balance.
