Lol its cool man, none of us came out our mom's ass knowing everything despite what some people think.

You'll hear pretty much 2 "different" kinds of short shifters. One refers to just shortening the actual "stick" that your shift knob goes on. It honestly doesnt do jack shit. The short throw shifter kits actually shortens the distance you have to move the shifter, therefor in theory making the times between shifts quicker. Thats all there is to it pretty much.

Yea I agree, its not really a must have mod, but I think it's a pretty cheap one if you have a decent money flow. You should look into it sometime.

A short throw doesn't necessarily decrease 1/4 mile times, it just make shifting easier, I would get it for just a daily mod, it definitely makes shifting a little easier.

I agree. As a daily driver, it's much easier and less work on the drivers' part.

The stock "throw" isn't even that bad compared to other cars. My Tiburon is like an entire arms length.

The best thing for a smoother shift are those bushings. Symborski shifter bushing kit, I think that's what it's called. Amazing difference, probably the best bang for the buck as far as drive quality goes.

Ah good suggestion, I'm gonna look that up. My gears have gotten pretty notchy, hopefully that'd help some.

Edit: Here's some good info on it if anyone else is interested, and Mach V sells the kits for $35.

Yeah, those are unbeleivable. I never thought something that small could ever make that much of a difference, but they made me a believer. Vince had installed them first (BoostedSpyder) and swore by them, and kept bugging me about getting some. I'm glad I did, and honestly, those were the best $35 I ever spent.

Just thought I'd bring this thread back up on account as I got my Symbroski kit today and I'm one happy summabitch.

Surprisingly it cured alot of my shifting problems. Before the kit, I was fearing a tranny rebuild. Countless time my gears would grind a bit going into 1st gear, and if I wanted to go into 2nd it felt like I was busting rocks and I had to "bump" the shifter a few times to coax it into 2nd. Pulling the shifter out of 5th always felt like something was snapping, and getting into reverse was a pain sometimes.

After I got the bushings replaced, I play with the shift a bit and the first thing I thought was "straight butter". If it didn't completely cure my shifting problems, it severely minimized them. In short, its fucking amazing, the best $40 to ever leave my pocket. If you guys don't have them on your 5 speed yet, order them, like now, RIGHT NOW. Mach V has em.

Its amazing how something so simple could feel so much better. Damn you Mitsu engineers!

I heard short throw shifter damage your tranny, I dont understand how, but that what I heard. I really want a short throw shifter, but I dont how how to install it or adjust the shifter on my car. If any know knew how to adjust the shifter let me know.

Going to a short throw won't hurt your tranny at all. Only bad drivers hurt trannys...

I have the underhood steel bushings and the shifter plate steel bushings, along with a highly modified B&M short throw. Its like the flick of a wrist now... I can't wait to drive it like that.

Short throw shifters are great. Most of them in the true form should and do come with new bushing kits. A short throw is a great addition to your car and can make your shifts much smoother but also when you do hit the track it makes it alot less likely for you to mis-shift. I've had them on almost all my cars and they are definately the hottness. :)

I swear to god, I tell myself over and over again, "Stop wasting money to upgrade your car. Stop wasting money to upgrade your. Stop wasting money to upgrade your car..."

i just cut my OEM shifter down about 3 inches, changed to shifter plate bushings to steal, and the Shifter cable bushings to steal, and my car shifts like a dream... it only cost about $6 from homedepo, and another "free" mod with some old skateboard bearings under the hood. sounds getto, but my car shifts like a dream! :2cents:
