2000 ranger ball joints

I just bought a 2000 ranger 4.0 and the ball joints are bad. The book I bought says that you have to replace the entire control arms, but the dealer and the aftermarket stores sell just the ball joints themselves. Any info. on how to replace them would be a great help. Thanks

I have a '99 Ranger and the ball joints are not removable nor serviceable. The ball joints have no grease fittings. The entire control arm must be replaced. My OEM Repair Book confirms that. On 2005 and later models however, I believe that the lower ball joints are replaceable.

control arms have to be replaced. I heard a rumor, not sure if it's actually true, that ford tac welds in the ball joints. there's no grease fittings either, which sucks
