'01 sephia a/c noise

my '01 sephia makes a harsh noise when the a/c is engaged, but then it sounds fine, it's not any belts, I thought it was the compressor clutch or bearings going, but it sounds like it's coming from other side of engine compartment, the only thing over there is the condensor fan, anyone have any ideas?
