Alright…I’ve decided that I want to take to back way around when it comes to modding my car…which I don’t have yet. I’ve decided that I want to start with the engine first. That way I can rebuild and build up the engine to my liking and then choose a car to put it in. Guy I work with said that if I start on this project the he’s going to have an engine he wants to build also. I know AF has a wealth of information, but I’d also like to have a book for this project. So here’s a list of books that I found on Amazon.com. What do you guys think of these and can you recommend so other books that you may have come across.

That second book, High-Performance Honda Builder's Handbook V1, is pretty good. It gives you a basic understanding on cam, valve, and ignition timing; and fuel tuning. Basic stuff like where and why you want adjust things. It's a good starting point for sure, but could definently be a little more specific IMO.

I started reading that 6th book, How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems. I've been pretty bumb'd out by this book so far. I've read or browsed through the book and it's not all that great. Most of the first 10 or so chapters are a lot about the history of EMS's and tuning with carburetors. It has a lot of the same info that the High-Performance Honda Builder's Handbook V1 has, with a little more detail to it. Still a decent read for sure, but honestly you might want to pass on it.

If you're interested in turbo down the road I'd strongly recommend Maximum Boost, by Corky Bell. Heck, even if you don't plan to boost it's a great book. A ton of info about every aspect of piecing together a turbo kit that will work best for your specific goals. Intercoolers, exhaust/turbo manifold/intake manifold designs, injectors, to correct turbo sizing.

my personal pref is the honda builders handbooks. they are really good books. what kinda of motor do you want and do you want to go N/A or FI? i have built both N/A and FI? they both can cost about the same amount. like my B16 N/A cost me like 8K, and My B18b turbo costed me about 9k. but they were sully built race engines. so its all what you want to do. well holla back at me and i can help you with anything you need help with. and i would drop the motor of your choice in a 92-95 hatch. well holla back
