Intermittent surge, battery, abs light flickers.

On my 1997 Mercury Sable 3.0L V6, I have an intermittent surge, battery, abs light flickers.

If you have these problems where the the battery will flicker for a seconds and then you get a intermittent surge as if the engine is going to die and the ABS lights will come on for no reason.

This is a dangerous situation where you are cruising at high speed and suddenly you are loosing power as if the brakes is suddenly applied because the ABS will come on and the engine seems to surge.

I have this problem for a long time and I have replaced the Alternator which fixed it for a while only to come back a few weeks later.

I have replaced the interior lamp relay, driver unlock relay, battery saver relay and I thought it fixed the problem but a month later the same problem came back. I swapped around the driver window relay, accessory delay relay, rear defrost relay and it did not fix the problem.

Only when I replaced the Accessory Delay Relay fixed the problem.

Thanks for the information.

Just out of curiosity, how long ago did you swap the accessory delay relay?

I have replaced the accessory delay relay with a brand new one for 3 months now and no more problem.

Thanks, so you can be pretty comfortable that you found your fix. You probably knew that was where my question was leading. :)

I have a totally different problem. However, I need to know the location of the Interior Lamp Relay and the Battery Saver Relay. They are not listed in the interior fuse pannel list or the engine compartment fuse pannel list.

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have a totally different car too, or a 1997 Sable?

So basically a totally different car as well. I'm not at home this weekend, so I don't have my service manuals to be able to tell you where to look for these items.

If you care to share what problem you're having that causes you to look for these relays, someone on this forum may be able to share some experience with you to reduce your investigation effort.
