Mondeo????

I just saw a Ford Mondeo on the road today:confused:
I've never even seen one in the states and only a few pictures of them. Anyone else seen a mondeo in the states?

i read in automotive news that mercury division may be getting the mondeo in their US lineup soon. though they'll probably muck it up like GM did when they rehashed the beautiful Opel Vectra into that Saturn LS heap...

I thought the Mondeo was supposed to be sold in the States and all over the world, hence the name Mondeo :rolleyes:

Nope, the latest generation is much too good a car for Ford to sell it here. It might degrade their rep of selling POS cars.

Did drive a 2.5 manual in early 2001 when I used to work for Ford and it's easily a better driver than any Ford brand car sold in the USA.

Reason going around that it wasn't coming state side because it was too close to the Taurus in size:rolleyes: Quite Lame!

That is indeed extremely lame... why dont they kill the Taurus if the Mondeo is so much better? it would theoretically clean up, since its so much better to drive than competition.. maybe the Taurus is cheaper to make, who knows... still, Americans are pretty unlucky to get such crap handling cars.... its an absolute joke if you ask me yet people dont seem to think theres a problem :confused:

For Ford, that isn't a bad looking car. I've never seen one before, but that is a lot nicer than the Taurus, Contour, and most other Ford sedans. I think it would sell good in the States.

worth noting the car in the pics is the "hot" Mondeo. The standard one is a fair bit blander

Absolutely, it is better looking than the old one, but thats not very difficult is it... and i still think its bland, it blends into the background oh too easily :o

I don't think they are bland. They are nicer and less bland then most Ford models in the US.

haha... i forgot we were comparing to US cars. absolutely, the Mondeo is a stunning looking car next to the mainstream US stuff... but compared to some of the Europeans (Alfa to name but one), this car is very bland

Actually ive just read an article that says Mondeo's are the fastest depreciating Fords in the UK, faster than Focuses, Pumas, and even the sh*tty Cougar and Scorpio!! Fleet cars, thats all i'll ever see them as

They're still pretty good cars though! Just buy them 6 months old instead of brand new.

I dont understand why someone would buy a Mondeo when you could get a 156 instead. It drives better, but, well... it's a ford.. and who in their right mind would pick a ford over an Alfa... just makes no sense :confused:

just an update, I saw the moneo again a few weeks ago. I really want to talk to the owner and see how they got it.

You guys get cars so extremely cheap in the us that you could easily afford the ST220 (top model), and it wouldn't cost you more than what ppl in europe would have to pay for the basic spec one.. Mondeo has great handling and drives like a far more expensive car, but here its just a middle class normal car, and I don't think there goes a day I don't see at least 50 mondeo's, seriously..

I ran with an ST220 on the autobahn the other day coming back from Kaiserlautern, from the A6 to the A5, he was on my ass until about 130, and either he backed off or I just had more top end, but I was goin till about 145 mph and than my car had no more left. I was surprised though because I thought he would over take me, and I gave him a couple chances, but he never passed me. I just think we were neck and neck..an then his governor kicked in, or he got scared.

the mondeo is an absolut standard car here in germany, you see him everywhere and i think he looks asolutely not good!

no, the absolute standard car is the vw golf, than ford mondeo, focus and then the opel astra.... opel vectra is very cool!

A lot of people over here would argue with that last statement of yours, and me at the front of the line! ;)

In case you didn't get it- Mondeos are all over the road over here- I see them by the thousands- always driven by either sales reps or junior executives. Same thing with Vectras.

r u serous you neighbors have two ferraris mondenas they are the best except for the ferrari 550. I see that me and you have the same favroite car. I think the 550 is the best car ferreri has come out with by far except for the 360 spyder. Also i will look into the ford mondeno thing i bet they are cool well ttyl

Hey BTW, I think the Mondeo was sold in the states under a slightly different name and slightly different design. I thinkt it was called the "Contour" and Mercury "Mystique" in North America.

The Mondeo and Contour I believe were pretty different- I managed to talk my dad out of buying a Mondeo V6 Ghia- can you imagine what the depreciation would be like :eek: he liked the VW Passat better than saving money anyway :bigthumb:

I simply can't understand how some americans (I SAID SOME) could be so .. let's say DUMB ! Ford is an american company and you've never heard about Mondeo ... ok. You don't watch TV either ? you've invented it. Many competitions were Mondeo has challenged and won a number of cups and trophyes.

ok , let me clear this thing between Mondeo (FORD) and 156 (ALFA). First thing we're talking about AFLA & FORD , ALFA is way over FORD.

Now let's compare the two models. WE CAN'T.

Take my ex.: in Europe, someone is thinking to buy a new car ... let's say he has to choice between 156 and Mondeo. Like anyone the first thing it thinks is THE PRICE. Mondeo = cheap , Afla = expensive. Not such a big price difference between the two models.

NOW, the guy thinks like this: "hmm .... a ... let's say 4.000 euro price difference, and automatly choices Mondeo in its mind. Now he only things at the price and he doesn't give any importance to Afla , no matter that she is great lookin' then Mondeo, more powerfull, etc. etc.

so his final choice is Mondeo.

This example is for someone who has a pretty limited budged and no matter how much can save counts to him !

Finally goes home and says: I've made a good choice. Good car. Instead of taking Alfa I took Mondeo and I've saved some bucks too !
