I have read and read and read somemore on this subject.I have changed thormostate,I have back flushed the heater core, when I backed flushed it Iran the water about med flow so not to do damage to the heater core but the thing seemed to have real good flow.I checked the heater hoses when I grab onto them they both seem about the same temp.my temp control on cold it blows cold but on hot it blows warm.Any idels? One more thing how do you open the pitcock on the bottom of the radiator?Standing in front of the truck I reached down and it turned 1/4 of A turn then got tight I was afraid to brake it so I stoped.I tryed puting some wire up in the drain hole to see if it was cloged but couldn't.:banghead: Plese help.

Try blocking the front of the radiator with some cardboard to block the airflow and see if you can get the engine temperature up some...keep an eye on the temperature gauge.

Did the cardboard in front of the radiator thing makes no diffrence.Something I did noticed, when you are setting the heat is warm, but as soon as you take off or even bring up the rpm's the temp on the air comes up.Could the water pump not be circulating the way it should? If so how do I check this?

My wife has a 99 durango and we've never had problems with the heat, but I own a 99 dodge intrepid that I had the same problem as you. My son used to work at a car wash and one customer came in and told him that his heater wasn't putting out hot air and all he did was move the temp dail up to just before having it all the way crank to hot and guess what I tried it with my car and it works. I don't know why it works but as long as it works I don't care. Its been working like that for over two years. Good luck

I am having the exact same problem. NO HEAT. My husband thought it was the thermostat, we put a new one in. both hoses fealt the same, but no water to the top of the radiator hose. Bought a new water pump, now the heater core is leaking into the passenger floor board. Before we bought the water pump and after the new water pump, while it idle's is real warm, but as soon as you take off it's back to cold air, the engine temp gets to where it's supposed to be at all times. WHAT NOW???? :banghead:

I had this same problem. Flushing, thermostat, and things of the such did no help. I decided to change the 50.00 heater core. What a job!! Took me 7 hours to change it. The entire dash and everything connecting to it has to be removed. Once that is done, you have to remove the entire heating control box out of the vehicle which includes getting the AC system drained and disconnecting the ac lines. Im sorry to say, but it sounds like you will have to do the same.

We have it planned for next weekend due to the length of time this will take. When you unhooked the ac lines,,,,did you just have to put freon (sp) back in the ac at a later time.....I read in one of the threads throughout this, that someone had to take their ac in and have something done to it before they put the dash back together? Thanks for the reply.

I took my vehicle in to the service center to have the freon evacuated. It is a federal offense to vent refrigerants into the atmosphere. Next, I just disconnected the AC lines at the firewall. When finished, I bolted them back on and just left the AC system empty until spring. I will then take it back in to have the system checked for leaks, evacuated and recharged.
