I haven't been able to check for play in the linkage - my wife took the truck in for an alignment and low and behold it needs over $400 in repair before the alignment.
Does it seem odd to have a 01 Silverado with 64K miles to have tie rods, idler arm linkages go bad? Does the tie rod not typically get greased during an oil/lube? I don't understand how these parts wore out with such low miles - I don't off-road or aim for the potholes, so please, if you have some insight, let me know.
I will most likely be attempting to replace these on a weekend and if you have suggestions on parts online or offline, please send them.
Thanks,
Ryan

My 2000 5.3 ext cab 4wd just had a front end check at 95K miles and everything was good. I drive it a little hard and am all the time hitting pot holes and things.

I have 155K on my 2000 Silvy. To this day I have never needed an alignment.
I think they are jerking your chain.

I would get a second opinion; hopefully, from a shop or mechanic that you know. My neighbor had a 97 Yukon with low miles (around 60K) and a tire store (large chain) told him he need over $1,000 in parts before it could be aligned. Since he knew that I once worked at a front end shop (many years ago while in college), he had me take a look at the estimate. I sent him to the front end shop where I get my alignments done (owner taught me how to align cars) and of course the front end was fine except for the shocks.
This sounds very fishy to me.

I bringing mine in for alignment nest week (going to the dealer - $129.00).
94,000 mi, never alinged.
I can't wait to see what I'm going to need (according to the dealer) to get the truck aligned.
