Acceleration issues

I have a 96 Jimmy 4X4. In the last week or so it's having problems with the acceleration and then shifting. It goes fine from first to second gear, but then seems to lose power going out of second. It will rev way up before it shifts. If I am on any kind of incline, I have no power at all. It's hard to get it up to 35 mph and maintain it on a simple hill. I was wondering if something came dislodged or disconnected because about a week ago, I swerved to avoid an accident and ended up lodged in a good size snowbank. I got out with the 4-wheel drive, but it hasn't run right since.

Any suggestions anyone has would be great. I want to take it in but I'd like some idea what could be wrong so I don't spend a fortune! It's been one thing after another lately! :banghead:

Any check engine lights?
Did you bend or pinch exhaust system?
How many miles on tune up?

The SES light is on, but that has come on and off for 6 months, no rhyme or reason to it. It gets worse - on the way home from work just now, it wouldn't come out of second gear, even when I manually shifted through the gears. Now I'm really scared about the transmission!! I can't afford that kind of bill right now! I don't think there's anything pinched, but I honestly wouldn't know what I was looking for anyway....

The check engine light is trying to tell you something.
Take it in and have it checked. Before it quits all together.
Ask them to check it over and ask them for a estimate before you tell them to fix anything.
Let us how it goes.

I had it checked out and the transmission is shot. My mechanic ran it through the computer and then tested it, and that's how it ended up.

The truck's got 175,000 miles on it, brand new tires, the head gaskets were replaced about a year and a half ago, and it runs great outside of this problem. Truth be told, the transmissions been a little finicky for about a year, so I think I had a feeling. They are talking a rebuilt or used for $900-1200. Anyone have an opinion on whether's it's worth it to replace? The mileage is high, but the cost of a new car is higher... any feedback would be great, especially from anyone who might have been there with this...

About as broad as it is long.
If the rest of the truck is good you could get another 25-75K out of it.
But putting money in a truck like that you will have to drive it to get back your investment.
Good luck
