2002 S-10 ZR2 Rattle Sounds Like Diesel Engine Between 1400 And 2200 Rpms on acceleration. No noise in park, only when normally accelerating. What Is It?

EGR Valve?

Welcome on your first post on AF.
Try to describe it a little more.
Engine code?
Mileage?
Check engine lights on?
Any noise under heavy load or coasting?
Oil pressure and condition of oil?
Engine operating tempt?
Can the noise be shorted out by disconnecting plug wires or traced to a certain cylinder?

I've known of a few with the same symptoms that turned out to be something in the exhaust system. Just throwing that out there...

Does It More After Heated Up. Only 50k Miles. No Check Engine Lights. No Codes. Oil Changed Every 5000 Miles W/synthetic.
Somewhere On Web Someone Said May Have Something To Do W/ Timing Gear And Balancing Wheel Or Timing Chain Tensioner?

You mentioned it doesn't do it in park? So if you rev it up in park, you hear no noise? If thats the case, chances are its not an engine problem itself.

Try putting it in gear, with you foot firmly on the brake give it a little gas. Your putting a little load on the engine, see if you hear the noise. Don't do this too long, only a couple of seconds. See what you get.

in about 99 % of cases where a customer says they have a rattle on acceleration the problem they are describing is spark knock aka pinging ...
could be cheap gas ( really low octane) ,egr problem ( not opening), overadvanced ignition ,knock sensors , even a plugged cat . try putting it in drive hold your foot on the brake and lean into the gas pedal and try to get it to knock - but no more than 5 seconds at a time and let it rest a minute before trying again -and get it to ping for more than 3 seconds to see if you can get a check engine light

Had that one and only on acceleration was the crank sensor and timing was thus off so valve rattle - if required buy Delco or Standard (not Wells). There also is a knock sensor on the back of the drivers side head with a sindle wire connector.

I Don't Think Its Pinging. Have Tried All Grades Of Gas With No Effect. Doesnt Sound As High Pitched As A Ping. Does Do It When Foot Held On Brake And Given Gas. Always Between 1400-2200 Rpms. Not When Heavy Accelerating. Doesnt Do It At All When Cruising In High Gear Around 1900-2000 Rpm At 65-70 Mph. I Would Think If It Was An Octane Knock It Would Do It Cosistently Especailly When Passing Or Under Heavy Acceleration. Could Be Knock Sensor, May Try That. Thanks For Help Guys.

You need to get it on a good engine capable scanner.
Check the camshaft retard setting.
Check EGR valve operation.
And watch the spark advance and retard for proper operation of pcm and knock sensors.
Check fuel mix and maf sensor and fuel trims.
Lean running engine can noise to.
No egr valve operation is a leading cause of spark knock noise.
What is the tune up history and service history.
