i've had my car about a month and i'm now noticing there is a black dust building up on my exaust pipe, is this a sign of something desperately needing to be done, i'm not sure cause my old civic had no tail pipe just a muffler and my new civic is has a stock B16A2, am i burning oil?

Check your oil level, if it is decreasing, then you are burning oil. If not, then black soot in the exhaust pipe means the engine is running rich (too much fuel in the air/fuel ratio). If this is the case, then just a simple tune up is usually necessary, replace the spark plugs, wires, air filter, & fuel filter.

im pretty sure that a internal combustion engine produce co2 and h20 when it runs and well basicly you get carbon. thats really all it is probably. maybe alittle bit of oil.

yea, you dont notice the carbon build up on stock muffles because the are black most of the time. If its a lot then you're running a little rich, which isnt bad for your motor, it just hurts your mileage a little. If there's a lot of soot covering your bumper (like my car). Then its time for a tune up
