Hi Steve,

WOW :eek2:
you push modelling hobby on another planet ! :worshippy
Your model really appear to me as "scale model" in its first and best sens, as it really looks like the real one... just a bit smaller !! :grinyes:

I have no better words to express my admiration of you work on this model...

This is sincerely one of the greatest (if not the greatest) scale model Formula one I've ever seen...

Great work!
Its one of those builds that you know they are good while you follow the WIP but when it's finally finished it still surprises you on a level you couldn't imagine.
Man, it's just a beauty of a build!

Hey looks great! Excellent paint job! You nailed it!! I'll sure use this and other Mp4/5b (by Scuderia) as a reference for my car. One thing though, do you find the monocoque cf pattern a bit obvious (size), since the real car is more rough cf texture and has goldish black layering kind of colouring, just my opinion.

i've said it before but it bears repeating - steve's build has inspired me to add an MP4/5B to my to-do pile, and i hope to do half as nice a job he did.

Steve,

Looks excellent! Do you have any close-ups on the CFed monocoque? Also, what PE set did you use for the bolt heads on the main body?

Thanks for all the kind words guys,I'm glad you all like the model.I'd like to thank you all for keeping me going on this one when the chips were down and I made a mess of the painting on the engine cover.I'll try and answer some of your questions if I can.

Could you please take some pics with the engine cover on the car?

Unfortunately the engine cover does not fit properly because of all the wires that I added. In hindsight I should have thinned the engine cover so that it would fit at the end, something I will be bearing in mind on my future F1 builds.

One thing though, do you find the monocoque cf pattern a bit obvious (size), since the real car is more rough cf texture and has goldish black layering kind of colouring, just my opinion.

The camera seems to emphasize the CF texture.Especially the sides of the monocoque. In real life it is more subtle and not quite so bold looking.I did add some gold to the mix when I painted the under layer. If you look at my WIP it is more obvious in some of the pics in there. But maybe not so obvious on some of the completed pics.I have to admit that this is the first build that I have really used carbon fibre decals on and it was a little experimental on my part trying out different types etc without maybe being 100% accurate.

Looks excellent! Do you have any close-ups on the CFed monocoque? Also, what PE set did you use for the bolt heads on the main body?

If you look at the WIP thread there are some close ups of the carbon fibre on the monocoque. All the photo etch bolt heads came from the Model Car Garage. They were just a generic sheet and not specifically intended for the McLaren.

I think it looks brilliant, well done! The photos of the bodywork on the stand remind me of some period photos from a motorsport magazine of the time with a number of them in a row at a track somewhere. Excellent finish and I think very realistic!

Hello Steve,
Incredible detailling and finishing work you've put in that old Tamiya kit!
Next time, you should not buy a kit to work on, you better start from nothing, as your scratch modelling is so high.....!!!!!!
Fantastic,

Cheers

Thanks for the compliment about the paintwork. The red areas are painted with Finishers MP4 red and they really are good paints I can't recommend them enough.
