98 Monte LS- Need help w/ Elect. Sunroof

Anyone have any ideas how to repair electric sunroof in 98 Monte LS. I had a guy look at it once, I know one of the "drive rods" needs replacing, the part was $75 ,couldn't part with the cash right then.
I need to know how he got to it and if there are any cheaper parts available.
