Driver window doesn't work

I posted same topic a few weeks back, however this morning I removed switch assembly from door and tried to clean all contact points and blow out with compressed air. I tried to pry open master switch assembly to see if I could try cleaning inside but it definitely did not want to open! When I reinstalled everything I noticed that when trying to open the other 3 windows I could hear a click(motor engaging????).But when trying driver window there was no sound.
I am wondering if I may need a whole new switch assembly or could it be the window motor? Also, I don't know if it means anything but the actual toggle switch has a little more "play" in it than the other 3 (maybe normal because more use???)
Thanks for any help!

i had the same problem not too far back. I did as you did and cleaned out the contacts as best I could. All in all I ended up replacing the switch. Its somewhat expensive so it mught be worth sourcing the part first before trying the dealer. If my memory serves me correctly I believe I paid $110 CDN but that was with a dealer discount. If you ask the parts desk if a discount is possible 9 times out of 10 they will take off 10-15%. I worked at a dealer parts desk for 3 years and its normal not to pay full list price.

Thanks for the reply! I am not sure if it would be the switch or if it is the window motor? I would hate to spend 100.00+ and have it not fix the problem.
Thanks again

Ok you were the one who posted about the windows before.
You should have just added to that thread, since it wasnt that long ago.
Pull the panel off the door and test the motor with a volt meter.
I bet the switch can be saved.
It can be difficult to pry the switches out but IMO its worth trying to save yourself a couple hunderd bucks. But the switches do click them selves when you push the buttons.
The bezel piece that holds the black button housing will seperate from the top.
I will see if I can get a better pic of that button housing
and show you all how they come out.
Which you will have to remove it if you buy a new one,
because it doesnt come with a new top bezel.
Also check all the accompanying fuses for your windows.
both under the hood and inside the cabin area fuse boxes.

Thanks xeroinfinity for your response. Yes, I will check the motor before I go shopping for a new master switch. Also, if you do have pics all the better!!
Thx again

Here are a few pics I found.....
the button switches may not be exactly the same on your Alero but realy close .
You pry them at the red arrows.

Button tabs 2 (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/AUTOMOBILES/buttontabs3.jpg)
Here is the actual button taken off.

The yello arrows are where the button above snapped onto.
The red circles is the two switch pins that trigger the switch inside.
Window switch 1 (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/AUTOMOBILES/wndwswtch2.jpg)
The yello circles are under the rubber protector, and the white pins are the tiny microswitches.
Window switch 2 (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/AUTOMOBILES/wndwswtch3.jpg)
That was all I could find right now.
The entire switch housing comes apart into several pieces.
Circuit boards, light emitter and all.
I was also trying to find the wire color codes for these....
Hope this helps :D

Decided today to try to play with switch and buttons to no avail! Then I thought maybe I will try beating the window motor with a screwdriver and hammer!!! :evillol: Lo and behold the window now works. Of course, I am assuming this only means that the motor is certainly on the way out.
My question is can you purchase only the motor or does the regulator etc. all come as one?
Thanks once again for all help
