Power steering pump

My power steering pump seems to be on it's way out. I see there are two possible pumps I could have, variable assist or non-variable assist. How can I tell which one I have? It looks easy but, any pointers for someone that has never changed one before? Thanks

It is easy to tell. The variable effort steering (VES) pump will have an actuator which is attached to the lower part of the power steering pump so you will defintely see an electrical connector which should be color coded blue/red. It will be located right below the pressure and return lines.
