Anybody else experience a piece of the inside of the gas tank coming loose?
My neighbor also owns a 94 cav like mine. His car came home via tow truck yesterday and he asked me for help. The problem was that it died on the highway and no amount of cranking today would make it start. Which is pretty much what happened to me. I posted on here a couple of years ago regarding a similar problem.
The gas gauge read 1/4 full and I could hear the fuel pump whine when I turned on the key so I put my fuel pressure gauge on the car and got 0psi for a reading. I also checked for a clogged fuel filter. As I was dropping the fuel tank I noticed that it seemed kind of light for having 1/4 tank of gas. I started thinking it was a failed/stuck sending unit. Got the tank open (it was empty) and discovered that part of the plastic that makes up the "well" (don't know what else to call it) where the fuel pump sits had broken off. There sat this curved piece of plastic in the area that the float resides and its height probably equaled about what 1/4 tank would be. I checked the rest of the interior of the tank that I could see and didn't find anything else wrong. Put everything back together, put gas in the tank and the car started right up. No fuel pump change out required.
