Hello Everyone, I am new to the forum. I want to think everyone in advace for any help given.
I now own a 1995 Nissan Maxima. This car is new to me. I work at a body shop and we have an impound lot. Occasionally we Title 42 cars. I just bought the Maxima from the impound lot. From my first inspection the good looked good, all I had to do was fix a small dent, and I bought some 2001 Maxima 17" wheels.
I finally started driving the car and I changed the CV joints, brake pads, turned the front rotors, changed the oil and I changed a battery connector.
Just after I changed the battery connector the Check engine light came on and it was never on before that. I did a diagnostic test and I got the codes for Knock sensor, Crank positioning sensor and...
"0407
Diagnostic Trouble Code 0407 indicates a malfunction was detected when...
A) 120 degree signal is not entered to ECM for the first few seconds during
engine cranking.
B) 120 degree signal is not entered to ECM during engine running.
C) 120 degree signal cycle excessively changes during engine running.
Possible causes...
- Harness or connectors
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (REF)
- Starter motor
- Starting system circuit"
When I change the posotive battery connecter I had to pull the harness a bit tight. Especialy the second smaller harness that connects to the main positive cable. Do you think I pulled the harness to tight and that could be the problem? My car is having a problem starting sometimes as well. When I turn the key all the dash lights come on but the engine doesn't even try to start. It usually starts on the second try, or if I depress the brake pedal. Im not sure what is causing this, some say it could be the Crank Positioning sensor.
Im not sure about the history of this car, since I dont know the former owners, but I must say the engine runs smooth and the car looks pretty nice. All the fluids are tip top, so I think the car was taking care of. But I can never be for sure.
My other problem is with the suspension of the passenger side. The control arm feels loose, as if the bushing is worn out. The suspension also squeaks, and clicks when I turn the wheel. I think the clicking is from worn out strut bearings, I know it is not the CV shafts because they are brand new. When I am driving and I go over a bump the passenger side suspension knocks and rattles, plus sqeeks. I want to fix it for safety, and because the rest of the car is so nice and quite.
What do you guys and gals think? What do you think about the CEL codes, do you think it could be because I pulled the harness to tight? And what about the suspension, could the sqeeking and ratteling be fixed by putting on a new control arm bushing?
Thanks.

All starts from verifying charge voltage, then connectors see p14
The camsensor produces two signals, seems that ECU doesnt receive the 120 -signal at all. Oscilloscope on the sensor connector, then to ECU pin, will give definite answer... harness problem can aso be tst bypassed by adding single wire parallel from sensor to ECU. There u need schema, seek via link below.
On page 5 is the typical ECU CONT relay nostart problem. ...swap relay, u may mix/swap tst with same color relays. Check brake pedal sw...
Suspension needs some 'crowbar exercise' while feelin/watcin for worn bushings.
