Well, what do you think you can do? You didnt stop for a sign and you admit that. Yeah it sucks, but you arejust going to have to pay it and not get caught next time.

It's not worth the hassle for a minimal stop sign ticket, it'll end up costing you more than the damn ticket probably. Just pay it and drive good for awhile.

EDMUND65
02-05-2007, 12:14 AM
how much do they range for?

gthompson97

What? A stopsign ticket? Doesn't it say on the actual ticket? I know ours does here in ND, but it will vary in every state. It shouldn't be THAT bad I wouldn't think.

Just go to court. Maybe the judge will give you traffic school. I wouldn't say fight it, but you can atleast go to court. Sometimes, most of the time your sentence is a reduced fine and traffic school. If you get that it means no points off your lisence.

Thor06

I think they are just like $50 tickets in MN, not too bad. I dont think court will help, more hassle than its worth IMO. I would rather just pay the $50 and be done with it than feel like an idiot fighting a minimal traffic ticket in court then having to go to a traffic class just to reduce the fee to $25.

Frankly it pisses me off when people always want to fight their tickets in court. I understand sometimes shit happens and cops arent always right and sometimes they will try to get you. If you fuck up, just pay the shit and take some responsibility for your actions. (not directing this at you at all, just in general)

It's usually a waste of time to contest something like this. I know tickets burn, but save yourself the time and trouble, just pay it and be careful in the future. I have to be careful myself too; been speeding all over the place and I know my luck will run out soon :(

My friend just started his own armed private security company, and his first patrol car was a retired police unit that's only a few years old, and he has all the traffic monitoring sensors in it. I've never been in a police car before, but after getting a ride in it, I've been much more careful on the road. These cars have radars in a 360 sweep configuration inside the vehicle, so they know how fast anyone in their immediate vicinity is doing at any time. It was pretty bad ass. So yeah, just be careful in the future, but don't fight this one, it'll get you no where really! :(

my friends here at school say its kinda dumb. they say to get an ajourment sp* that will let me write a letter to the DA explaining the situation and depending on the DA's mood he will reply with a lesser charge and if i agree to that i sign it and send it back then he sends the final fee.... so i think thats worth it...

gthompson97
02-05-2007, 12:22 PM
Why don't you find out how much it's gonna be first, and then go from there? Like Dustin said, what's the hassle of going through all that for a measley $50 ticket.

I got a ticket the other morning in my Mazda and He says I was doing 90mph in a 65 mph zone. I later looked closley at the ticket and see the he didnt clock me at all. It says he paced me with his patrol car. WTF? I know that I do speed sometimes but I also know that I was NOT doing 90 mph? Besides the fact the he was half a mile behind me when i first saw him and the got in the right lane as soon as he was behind me. There is no way that he cought me doing 90. I have been advised my my lawyer to plead something called......Nolo contend? Anyone ever heard of that?

steviek

no contest?"

Thor06
02-05-2007, 04:05 PM
Isnt no contest like worse than pleading guilty? Like you have no chance for winning?

Also, "pacing" is bullshit and with no proof like that, if you were infact driving decently, I would fight it. Were you speeding though? If you were and even going close to 90, take it like a man and take come responsibility for yourself. You know the speed limits and if you chose to go over them, thats your choice, but you cant get pissed off at an officer for doing his job. Theres no reason at all to get busted for something you know you were doing wrong and complain about it.

Last week I drove my eclipse for the first time in 2 weeks... didn't even get 2 miles from my house before I got a speeding ticket. And the sad part was, I have a Escort radar detector.. which went off, but I payed no attention to it. The cop said that if I had slowed down to normal speed (Like people always do when they see a cop in the near distance) that he would have let it go,.. oh well... and just when I was about to get a break in my insurance

From my understanding, pleading no contest is pretty much pleading guilty, just without saying it. You are not contesting the charges against you and you are not fighting them. It won't help you out much.

Pacing is stupid. It's not actual proof. Radar doesn't lie (unless its uncalibrated). Cops word in court is strong, but fightable.

As for the ticket. I'd say just take it and be careful. It's a stop sign ticket. It's not bad IMO. I'm waiting to get one. I never stop anymore. In my neighborhood, there's stop sign on every corner. No one stops now.

If you plead no contest they normally take it easy on you. Guilty with an explanation in my opinion is better. I don't exactly know how they do it in America but I have the Canadian system down pat seeing as how I am studying this shit. Depends alot if the cop shows up in court. Most of the time they don't in that case the charge is dropped if they do then even if you do get convicted the judge often reduces the charge for you anyways. If you plead guilty with an explanation the cop doesn't have to show up but they always reduce it for you just so that you take the ticket. (basically guilty with an explanation is a no lose situation) except if your time is extremely valuable and can't be bothered to go to court. In that case just mail your money in and be done with it.

as for pacing In Canada the precedent is since the car must be tailgating you in order to pace you then it is not a viable method of gaugeing speed. Since tailgating is illegal they can't do it in order to give you a ticket.

I got a ticket a 2 years ago for running a stop sign, a california stop you would call it lol. That gave me 3 points on my driving record and total cost was $150

Can someone explain this "points on my record" system for me? I dont know that we do that in MN....

EDMUND65
02-06-2007, 12:16 AM
for every moving violation you get there are points on the license... so many points they suspend your license...

gthompson97
02-06-2007, 12:17 AM
Some states have a points system instead of the "3 tickets per year" like MN does. (I believe that's how it works isn't it?) In ND, for each offense, they offer a point value. Like 0-5 mph over is 0 points, 10-15 is 1 point, 15-20 is 3 points, and so on. Running a stopsign/stoplight is 2 points, but a non-moving voilation (tint ticket, exhaust, etc) aren't worth any points. I believe a charged DUI gives you 18 points on your license. Anyways, we can have up to 11 points on our license and still keep them, but once you get that 12th point, it gets revoked until you drop back down to 11. You get one point back every 3 months you don't have a violation, or you can take a Defensive Driving course once a year which gives you 3 points back. Hope that helps.

well i went to meet with the clerk today.. it happens to be my history professor on campuss... lol his wife is the judge... so i explain the situation and i showed him the letter i wrote and gave him my background. He said i should have no problem getting it reduced to a non moving non point violation parking ticket for a fine of around or below 100$. i recall him telling me the fine for the stop sign can be around 250$ so im gunna send the letter... hell 5 years of driving and a clear record??? yea im gunna send the letter..... besides now i dont have to go to court.:)

02-07-2007, 01:36 AM
Sometimes if you just send in the fine by a certain date they will knock the points down ie from a 3 to a 2 or in your case with a good driving record maybe even 1. Those points add up id try to get them reduced, i thought it was stupid the first time i got a ticket and lo-and behold i almost got my license jacked last month the DA was in a good mood and docked my 6 to a 0 with lvl 2 driving school im only 17 so my point limit is 6 and with the ticket i was up to 9. You never know when your gonna need the points later...
