Engine Warning Light! And Car driving poorly, Help

Ok well the engine warnign light came on tonight
I didnt know what it was at first, so i tried to keep it in nuetral and cost.
I can feel the power loss, after i shift, i get a large lag time, 1 seconds or so, then it starts to go
Any ideaS?
i was told maybe injection

Did you check to see if you are throwing any codes??
