99 cavalier trunk lock problem

Hello
I bought a new key cylinder for the trunk lock from the local dealer to replace the existing one on the vehicle.
I removed the clip that holds the cylinder to the trunk body.
Half of the cylinder fits into a plastic cap which has a lead to connect it to the trunk latch. I do not know how to remove the plastic cap so that I can remove the old cylinder and install the new one.
I would appreciate any assistance on this matter.
