Interior Electrical Questions

Ok, I am trying to ready my truck for a cross country trip this summer and over the last year I have some ideas that I would like to ask about:
2001 Silverado 1500 LS Ext Cab 2wd
1. I have the captains chairs and in the middle there is a console that has a lid. Inside the console is a change organizer thing. Right next to it it looks like there is a "blanked" 12V round receptacle there. I would like to add a working 12V accessory (cig lighter socket thing) outlet right there. Does anyone have that thing there? Has anyone made it a live socket? Is there a live 12V constant under that console I could use?
2. I have a Jason Industries Extreme camper shell (fiberglass) that I would like to wire in for lighting. I have 2 new 12V light bezels that go inside the camper shell. I was wondering if there was a way to hook it into the "Cargo Light" circuit so I can use my factory switch in the cab to turn on the camper lights. Currently the cargo light comes on but it is not doing any good between the camper and cab. Does anyone know where this circuit can be located? Preferably underneath the truck so I can tap it for the 2 lights.
I have more questions but will leave this for now.
Thanks

I've been thinking of adding an interior light to the Vistal shell on my '02 LS. I hate to do it; but I'm questioning your thinking...
Unless you have a split rear window; why would you want to use the Cargo light on the dash to turn the lights on/off in the camper? I think it would be better/easier to run a +12v line to the shell and have a switch inside the shell where it would be useful rather than having a button on the dash control the lights in the cab.
If my thinking is wrong; please let me know!.
Off Topic I know..
I saw in your other post that you are thinking of doing the laptop+ gps receiver... That setup kicks ass; but if you put +12 in the center colsole; you'll also have an inverter generating heat in there as well. I have my inverter hard wired under my passenger seat tapped off the same +12v line I ran for my amp (under drivers seat). Hope it helps!

(1) You know, my wife said the same thing about having the switch in the shell rather than in the cab. Good point. Is there a constant 12V under the truck to tap? Like maybe to the factory towing harness maybe?
(2) I have an amp under the rear seat of the extended cab, and I was thinking the same thing about adding an inverter there, but I wondered if it would be too much of a draw. How big of an inverter did you use? Does it have 2 110V outlets or one? And one more thing did you just use a chassis ground? or did you run a ground to the battery. PLEASE reply I have been brainstorming this for a while.

I hardwired my inverter after I blew 3 cigarette lighter fuses. My 400W inverter came with 2 connection options.. 150W via Cig adapter; or 400W via hardwired.
My laptop is basically a portable computer; it's "brick" of a power supply draws 150-160W's so if I forget to turn it off I usually blow the cig lighter fuse when I turn it on AND it's trying to charge the battery. (d'oh!) I finally figured it was time to hard-wire it.
My Amp is 400W; but I'm only driving 2 8" subs so it never gets that much of a workout. I wanted a little more bass than factory; not to bounce down the street.
I tapped off the amp's +12 to power it; and loosened up one of the Pass seat anchor bolts; wire brushed the stud and connected the ground to it and re-tightened the bolt.
This is the one I have:
