1994 Jimmy Fuse Keeps Blowing

Hi new to the sight and having a prblem with my truck any help would be great. I have a 1994 Jimmy 4X4 that the IGN-GAGES fuse keeps blowing, this fuse runs the Rear defog switch, timer, and relay, cruise control, four wheel drive indicator light, seat belt timer, 02 sensor, 0 spd warning DRl Relay, ISRV and Vanity, Auto transmission and Indicaor lights and gages. So far I have diconnected the 4 wheel drive switch, defog swicth, and rr defog wires at the window and the wiring harness at the transmission with every thing disconnected fuse still blows, and the 4 wheel drive indictaor ligt still works though. The fuse will pop with the truck running or in aux position. The running light s do not work with out this fuses. If any one has any Ideas that would be great.

Knowing what's on the circuit is half the battle. You're on the right track. Keep disconnecting things one at a time until the short is gone. Then trace the circuit for a short circuit.

Check all the wire looms that run up and down next to the engine block and exhaust manifold - look for one that may have gotten too hot and has been burnt. Also check the engine compartment from underneath too.

After I got thinking some more about this situation, I am wondering if it is not something to do with the running lights, what does anybody elsre think.

By "running lights", are you referring to the headlamps or the parking lamps? The instrument illumination circuit gets it's power from the parking lamp circuit. If the parking lamp fuse is faulty, the instrument illumination lamps will not operate.

Factory wire harnesses are very substantial and problems with them are rarely encountered if they're left alone. Generally if electrical problems occur, like the one you are experiencing, it is traced back to an aftermarket accessory, or something electrical that was "tampered" with. If the vehicle has an aftermarket radio, trailer hitch wiring, etc and it was wired incorrectly, or has bare wires that have shorted to ground, those would be the areas to check first.

THE LIGHTS THAT I AM TALKING ABOUT IS THE LIGHTS THAT COME ON AS SOON AS YOU START THE VECHILE, i DID WIRE A TRAILER RECIEVE IN AND MAYBE ASOME IS SHORTING OUT THERE. THANKS FOR THE HELP SO FAR, ALL GOOD ADVICE.
