Head Rebuild Question Part #1

Couple questions ad I'm finishing up buying stuff for my head. I have just about everything. Just have to get a OEM timing belt, springs & retainers, and gaskets.

1) Do valve guides come with valve seals? The head is being worked on right now at the machine shop and he's installing valve seals. Are the guides part of that?

2) Stock valve keepers should be fine right?

3) Anything that's really important that I need to know or do? Anything most people forget to do when rebuilding or installing?

I don't believe valve guides come with seals, but I guess I've never been around when guides have been put in, I usually let my machinist do that. Did he ask or something? He would probably know that better than we would.

Stock keepers should be fine.

Are you installing the valves or are you letting him do everything?

He's doing the valves with the valve job. Making sure they seat properly and all, but I'm installing everything.

I'll email him later to see about valve guides.

no valve guides dont come with seals. and if your going all out might as well get titanium locks there alot lighter then OEM ones.

Travis, show me a link for some. Can't find those anywhere... just OEM replacements.

I'm checking with my guy doing the head right now to see if he can get the guides and install them while the head is there. Honestly, I can't remember taking the old ones out.

And yes, defiancy, yes it will.

Another question, are they hard to install? What's the process here because I'm drawing a blank on them. Do I just slide them inside the seal?

Stock retainers should be fine. Hahn is running a basically stock head and into the 10's(IIRC) with a turbo, I think you should be fine without one.

I'm not talking about the retainers. I'm talking about the locks. Getting new light weight retainers.

Well if stock locks hold on a 10 sec. head, then I'm sure they'll be more than fine for yours.
