color OVER clear

Last night a sprayed an engine part of my N89C ‘black-silver leaf-clear’ 10 min. apart. When I came back 90 min. later not only was the part not glossy but flat and also because of this it didn’t look “silvery” enough. It looked like a different color. Has this happened to anyone before? It was late and rather than strip the part I re-sprayed ‘silver leaf’ OVER the ‘clear’ to get back that nice shine. Will any color on top of ‘clear’ cause any problems down the road? I know Tamiya recommends that you spray clear over color within the first 20 min. or that you wait one month. I believe it is because the clear may crack over time. I was about 90 min. for me. All were Tamiya sprays.

You proabably didnt wait long enough for the silver leaf to dry, and you may have put too much clear on at one time, try using mist coats first. Then again silver leaf isnt that metallic its more " chromey" IMO.

I've used tamiya paints and cleared in about the same time. You could have applied it too heavy. I will spray a mist coat, a full coat about 30 mins later and two wet coats about 15 mins apart. I have also sprayed over clear and never had a problem but it was over dupli-color paint not tamiya.
