Help with airbrush fitment/adapter

Hello,

I'm after advice on sourcing an adapter for my new airbrush.

I recently bought a Tamiya Spray-Work HG Single Airbrush (TAM74519) from Media Mix Models in Singapore. When it arrived, I realised that the air-brush isn't supplied with a hose to connect to a canister. I tried to source one here in the UK but didn't have any luck, so I ended up getting a Coiled Hose and Attachment for Spray Work Air Can (TAM74526) from HLJ. I went out and bought a can of Badger air from my local art supplies store, Hobby-craft, here in the UK.

It seems that the air canisters in the UK are different to those in Japan. Although the threaded top is the same size, it appears that the Japanese cans have a pointy bit sticking out of the top and the UK ones don't.

Can anyone point me in the direction of an adapter? I can't find anything listed anywhere, which is probably because I don't know what the adapter is called.

The only way I can think of to attach it would be to use a Badger air hose then you could use the Badger aircan adaptor.But you would need to get another adaptor to make the airbrush fitting end 1/8".All Badger hoses are a different size fitting (at the airbrush) they are smaller than the Tamiya ones. But the Tamiya is 1/8" same as Iwata.

You need the following:Badger BA-50-200 propellant can adaptor,BH-50-001 air hose,Iwata IWA-J002 Iwata airbrush adaptor to Badger hose.These 3 items would give you an adaptor to fit the Badger aircan,a hose to fit the adaptor and an adaptor to make the threaded bit on your Tamiya airbrush fit the Badger hose.But if someone knows of an adaptor to fit the Tamiya hose that you have to the Badger aircan that would be better and cheaper.

Thanks for the response. It sounds like a bit of a faff but at least it will work. I will hold out a while as someone may know what it is I require. The other alternative is to find a supplier of Tamiya air in the UK?

can is Revell of Germany, adapter is from chinese single action airbrush. chinese one cost me around 10EUR, revell beginers single action airbrush must cost not more than 10-15EUR and it contain the same adaptor.

Bill,does the airhose unscrew at the part I have circled in red? If it does I think you could get away with just a can adaptor like Stupid_boy shows in his picture.The only thing it would depend on is if the thread on the end of the airhose is the same as the one on the can adaptor.The can adaptor would then fit the aircan you have and you could simply screw on your Tamiya airhose to this.

Yes, the hose unscrews from can adapter leaving a PS1/8 28 end.

Bill,I have just trawled through my model box and I have a Badger can adaptor.It also has a threaded insert in the bottom and a tyre adaptor (so you can connect it to any wheel from a real car and blow up the tyre and use the air from it to power your airbrush.See the pics below.It's yours if you want it? Hi guys. The problem is now solved. A big thank you to Steve for sending me his spare air regulator.

Now that I have both air regulators, it is easy to see the part I needed. The air regulator contains an air adjuster valve. On the one Steve has sent me this has a long thin male point to it which penetrates the female connector on the Badger Airbrush Propellant can. On the Tamiya air regulator, the air adjuster valve has a thick blunt male end which is clear designed to depress the top of the Japanese design cans.

The two air regulators that I have have different sized adjuster valve threads so they are not interchangable. However the hose adapter joints are the same so Steve's air regulator works with my hose.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. I just hope now that I can remember how to airbrush models... I bet it is about 20 years since I last used an airbrush :)
