Can It Be Done??

A guy I know is picking up a 90 3cyl 5spd. He says everything is pretty good except the rear control arm going to the driver side axle assembly is disconnected because of rust. Nothing else is rusted too badly. Evidently a welding shop declined fixing it. Can this be fixed with a mig or a spot welder and some new metal???? I hate to see this thing being parted out.

It's not a good idea and I doubt any welding shop would take on the job because of the liability.

What exactly is the "rear control arm"? I've read about Metros having problems with them before, is it one of the more-common Metro flaws? Sounds pretty bad if it can't be fixed for liability reasons.

Thanks for the reply, I'm not entirely sure about my friend's description, but I believe he is talking about the sheet metal in the area that the alignment arm (control arm) attaches to. The following link will help. I still would like to see it fixed instead of parted out.
