amy@af

can somebody please post a pic of their stock y8 set-up. particularly around the intake manifold, vacuum lines, and around the eletrical connections.

i have a y8 but still using the a6 intake mani. time to add the y8 one. it would really help to see pics of the stock set-up.

thanks in advance!

92-95 Si hatchbacks aslo had a D16Y8 but I believe it was labeled at Di16Z6. They are the same engine though.

If it is vtec (is that better?) :bloated: then why doesn't the head say vtec on it? I have the same engine (d16y8) and I was under the assumption that I didn't have vtec because of the lack of the vetc head cover.

Yeah i know what your sayin about the valve cover. I was wondering why mine didnt say it so i called the dealership and they said the 96-98 civics dont have the valve cover that says vtec, but if i wanted to check i could take off the intake and rev the engine and it should change tone at 5600 rpm. I decided not to do it... besides, you could always just look to see if you have a vtec solenoid. If you have a d16y8, you have vtec. Isnt the d16z6 the same engine but without vtec?

Z6's and Y8's are basically the same engine and both have VTEC heads without the VTEC valve cover.

yes the d16z6 and d16y8 are alike...but not the same! the z6 is more like the d16a6 (sohc non vtec). the y8 injectors have a different impeadence.

ps. nope, i don't have vtec  my valve cover doesn't say vtec and i love it. you'd be amazed how many 96-00 EX owners ask me what i have done to my d16a6 :hehehe:

That is so sweet. I always thought I didn't have vtec. This makes me so happy. When I race, I did notice a change in sound and the way the car pulled, but its really not that noticeable. I thought it was just the way the rpm band was. I have i/h/e and when I hit vetc I noticed it sounds a lot louder and smoother. My owners manual says it's vtec but I didn't believe it because I don't have the cool vtec valve cover. This is great!!! :)

Thanks. I need to get it to a strip to find out. But first I need to toss it on a dyno and play with my ignition, cam gear, and VAFC before I make an legit runs.
