went for an oil change in this truck that i just bought and this is wat they tell me...
well first its an 89 sierra stepside with a 5.7 auto v8
they tell me it has "minor rear main seal, rear pinion sweats"
is this something i should take care of immediately, or will it be ok for 1-2 yrs before i get rid of it?

This is only my opinion but here goes.
First the rear main. I have a 90 Sierra K1500 that I owned since new. The rear main is a 1 piece design not a 2 piece that had leak issues. When I noticed some oil near the rear main, it turned out to be the oil filter adapter O-ring and gasket. So I would look there before the rear main itself. A leak at the rear of the intake can also look like the rear main is leaking.
2nd the pinion sweats. Yes they do, especially when the are old like our trucks. Mine has a little sweat but is not leaking. I check it every week or so. If it is leaking, you will know it and then you will need to have it fixed. If you are not sure, put a piece of cardboard under the diff every night for a week or two. If you notice a stain, time to get it looked at.

kk thank you yukon for the reply
..i noticed a bit of a drip where the driveshaft hooks up to the diff :(
seems already that this truck is goin to cause me more problems than i expected
although it does have 375,000km on the truck
and 70,000km on the motor
is it even worth gettin fixed, or should i get a new truck??
any opinions appreciated greatly!!!!
