brake problem?

I had the right front wheel bearing replaced and we had to compress the caliper with a C-clamp to get the caliper off. When we were done I pumped 1/2 peddle slowly and my peddle stiffend up.The brakes feel fine, but when I come to a stop, just before stopping my peddle vibrates and hums? What is causing this?

It sounds like you have a problem with the ABS system...did you plug the sensor into the wiring harness in the wheel well?

I believe you mean b-r-a-k-e problems. :icon16:

I am thinking it might be the sensor. The new one that came with the hub was broken so we reused the old one. I'll check it out.

I just replaced my right front hub, with the new sensor (supposed to be improved over the OEM sensor). Plugged the new in, everything seems fine.

What was broken on the new sensor?

I would take back and get the sensor that came with the new hub.

I replaced a hub before they had the recall and the sensor was bad so I had to get a whole new hub and swap out the sensor and then return the hub with the bad sensor...it was a pain in the butt.

The weather was real cold that week. The plastic was broken on the end and the wire was broken also. I bought the hub from an e-bay seller. I still have the problem,it's getting real annoying and unsafe. At 8 miles per hour the abs kicks in forward and reverse on dry pavement. I hit a patch of ice to test and the abs kicked in. I went home and disconnected the negative battery cable for 15 minutes and that didn't help. I did find out that my left rear rotor is warped and that's the noise I'm hearing. I seems like a rotation problem at 8 miles an hour. I there a way to reset the ABS? Hears a thought, would never cease lube effect the sensor? We put never cease on the end of the axel spline.

If your sensors are reporting different voltages then the ABS thinks the low voltage wheel is locked up and activates the ABS system.
Here is the sensor test:
Disconnect the sensor from the wire...plug an AC volt meter into the sensor line...reinstall the tire and give it a spin while watching the meter. Anything under 350millivolts is bad and you either need a new sensor or the rust has moved the sensor so far away from the ring inside the hub it can't get a good hit as it moves past it. Do the other side...if you get a good reading put that sensor on the bad side and spin it again. If the voltage is up then the original sensor is bad. If the good sensor is now bad you need a new hub or more rust removal...get a new hub.
I just found it...02-05-25-006A ABS Activation at Low Speeds (11/26/02). This is the Tech Bulletin from GM that tells all about the ABS problem.
Also...this trucks had a recall about their ABS sensors...I got a new sensor on one side and GM paid for a hub I replaced on the other. Check with a dealer to see if your truck has the recall.

The hub on the right I just replaced,so there shouldn't be any rust. Now the hub on the left is old.Could there be a voltage difference with the old verse's new? Maybe I'm getting more voltage from the new one?

The first thing I would do if I were you would be to call the dealer's service department...tell them your problem and ask if your truck is covered under last years recall. Have your vin# ready. If that doesn't work then I would test the sensors and see if the old one is low. You can also remove the sensor, plug the hole and wire brush or whatever all of the rust off and see if that helps.
If you do the test if the left is low swap sensors...if it's still low then it's the hub.

I think when my tax return comes in a couple of weeks.I'll buy a new hub for the left side and then they will both be new. I e-mailed the guy that I bought it from. Maybe he will send me a new sensor to replace the broken one. I also need a new left rear rotor,Ill buy 2 and new pads. Spring is just around the corner.

The guy that I bought it from say's he recommends replacing in pairs because sometimes the aftermarket hubs have more teeth in the reluctor wheel.
The way we have these is hub assembly only. The sensor is
covered under warranty and we can swap it out with a
repolacement and we have foud that it is best to replace these in
pairs because of the ABS sensor and reluctor wheel. The reason
for this is the later designed hubs sometimes have a different
number of teeth on the ABS exciter wheel or they are of different
size. The sensor reads both wheels and thinks one wheel is
spinning at a different speed and this can cause the ABS light to
illuminate and this may be why the old ABS wire is also causing
the light to come on. ALso if the light has been on for awhile,
their could be aporpblem with the other sensor. Anyway to
proceed with a warranty replacement we take a deposit for the
cost of a new hub with shiping. We then ship you a new hub and
we also include a return shipping label. THen when we recieve
the part back, we credit you back for the deposit. Let me know
and we can handle that ASAP. Have a great day!!
