Hello-

I am thinking about purchasing a 90 Bronco w/ a 351 swapped in from a 94 Bronco w/ a 5 speed. I have posted the ad below and wanted to know what else to look for or if this swap is okay:

I've owned the bronco for 4 years now. I am the second official owner of the truck. The original owner donated it to a charity. The 302 in the truck was bad. It had 157000 miles on it when I bought it. I repaired the 302 and clogged cat and drove it for 1 1/2 yrs. An uncle of a friend of mine had a 94 bronco that he had wrecked, and was parting out. I bought the 351w out of the 94. It had 92000 miles on it when it was installed in my bronco. So now I've got a 90 bronco with a 94 351windsor engine with 96,000 miles. At the time of the 351 swap I installed a new concentric slave cylinder in the transmission. The rearend has 100000 miles on it new brake shoes, springs, wheel cylinders, and lines. The gas tank is a 33 gallon and 4 years old. (gauge stopped working last year) The lift was put on 2 yrs ago, and new radius arm bushings, brake lines, u-joints(front axle, front/rear driveshafts), drop pitman arm, shocks, upper/lower ball joints, front axle seals, front bearings, were all done at same time of lift. Rear tailgate is rust free, and off of a 94 bronco from california. It has a little damage to one corner(minor), from when it was shipped to me. Power window works, at both the key switch, and dash switch. Have not had any leaking problems with the top, unless I only put 4 bolts in it to hold it on. So the engine has all of the emmissions sensors, and computer from a 94 bronco with an e40D auto tranny, and the bronco is a 5-speed. This means that the computer will send error codes for the transmission which doesn't affect anything emmission related. Cold 134a a/c (from the 94) Good running truck. I've only put around 22'000 miles on this truck in 4 yrs. I've got a company truck to drive during the week, so the bronco just sits in the garage. The rust on the truck is on the drivers side rocker panel, and some above the rear wheels. Rest of the floorboards are solid. The transmission does leak a little fluid. The tires are a little noisy on the highway, being they are mud terrain tires. That's about all I can think of right now, except for not being afraid to drive this bronco any distance.

What do all you Bronc owners think? He wants around $2500 for it and it needs a cat converter to pass emissions? How reliable is this combo? Don't know much about Broncos, but I like this one. Yay or nay? TIA

The 'biggest' concerns I would see are the tranny leak, and the convertor. You may need the cat to pass emissions (and the legal headache that involves-for spending the $200-300 to have a new one installed.). The tranny leak would have to be addressed to see if you have a bad seal, or worse, a porous case.

Glad to see that the computer came with the engine, as that would lead to it's own problems. All-in-all, that doesn't sound like a bad deal...but the price is a little high for such big questions to be answered, IMO. (You wouldn't flinch at doing those things if this were a $1000 deal, but since it's not, *I WOULD* think heavily before I bought into it with so much left to do.
