So, where are all the other goodies to complete the thing? Hard to run an engine with just bare pistons and a block...unless you want to be called Fred Flintstone.

Nice, you have 12 bolt in there right? The extra muscle ain't gonna chew up the original rear and trans is it? Cause you know... if Babs hops in on this thread he'll have you worked up to like 22,500 rwhp, lol.
(Didn't all maro's prior to 70 come with 12 bolts? Or was that just the ones with bigger engines?)

I know on the 1970, the RS package came with 12 bolt if you had an 8 cylinder (350?), but some prick swapped mine out for an 8.5" 10 bolt. I know the thing's been abused like a red-headed, club-footed, buck-toothed, knock-kneed, dyslexic, adhd-afflicted step child, but she's still there and strong so... :worshippy to the 8.5" 10 bolt.

glad to see your running main studs, i see so many people thinking that whit a HI PERF engine head studs are a must, really they are not neccesary, if you ask me if your building an engine above 400HP main tuds are a very smart idea if nto a must

I could swear I opened the Pontiac Firebird section of this site. What's all this talk about "'maros"? Is that the youth-market reference to Camaro? Oh, the "poor man's Firerbird..." Argh! Argh! Humor...
You know of course, Firebirds and Camaros are NOT the same, at least prior to 1982.
FWIW, early Camaros were "standard" with the Chevy "10- bolt, C-lock" rear. Not very tough. 8.2" ring gear, but don't confuse it with the "GM 8.2". The Pontiac/Olds/Buick 10-bolt rear is the "8.2". Either is okay for a stocker. The BOP version can take more power without giving up. 12-bolt is THE WAY. All the big block Camaros got 12-bolts.
The 12-bolts were in some of the more powerful Firebirds, too. ALL the T/As through '71, and maybe '72 (not sure of the crossover year to 8.5). The 8.5 10-bolt is very similar to 12-bolt, with less bolts holding the ring gear to the carrier (same size, though). Eliminating the C-locks is a GOOD thing!

hey, hey , hey Pbody... you opened the FBody section, there no longer are separate sections as for all intents and purposes they are the same vehicle (admittedly with minor differences). Maro... is easier to type, easier to say, and seems less jackassish than saying Camaro everytime you're referrfin to your vehicle. Consider it a affectionate shortening of the name.
Prior to 1982 they were still almost the same. You're not talking the difference between a Volga and a Chevy... the same platform was used (hence F-Body) and the mechanical differences are not big enough for them to be considered different vehicles... I don't know about everyone else, but I kinda look at them as different options on the same basic car. One has a difference nose, slightly different engine, semi-different interiors... but basically the same car.
By the way... what the hell is "FWIW" and "BOP"?
Hey Dylan, is there anyway to get the match.com girl to do a strip show instead of just giggling into the webcam? All I know is that the last 4-5 days I've been on that's the only advert at the bottom that's been on... she needs to spice it up a little.

Whoa, whoa, whoa there babs... You talking about me Jim, or this Pbody Jim guy??? If you're talking about me, out of the two of us, I'm the one that's been married for 8 years and have 3 kids, lmao.
Now, that being said... I do like rear ends... and one that's presented properly is downright sexy, but any reference to me liking a man's hairy ass is just wrong.
How could you do this to me?!?!? I treated you like a son!
EDIT: Done some work on your maro? Looks all shiny and nice in your sig ... lol, or is that just trick photography?

Well, he sure as hell isn't talking abot ME!! (:- I'm married, raised 4 kids, have a nice German wife!
Prior to '82, there were only the heavy mechanicals of the platform shared by Firebird and Camaro. Engines are COMPLETELY different. A Pontiac V8 and a Chevy V8 share NOTHING.
FWIW = "For what it's worth"
BOP = "Buick, Olds, Pontiac"
The former is a quite often used acronym on many websites. The latter is the specific reason the cars should be separated. If you don't now what "BOP" means, you shouldn't be talking about the differences between Firebird and Camaro. To you, they must ALL be "maros"... To us (Pontiac people), a Camaro is a "poor man's Firebird". While the cars DO share many features, they are NOT the "same".

Korn... heh I' guess i'm talking about everyone... I don't know... (That was really aimed at Babs though, lol.)
To you, they must ALL be "maros"... Not ONCE have I ever even so much as insinuated that a Camaro and Firebird are the same car. FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES... they are the same vehicle... Nowhere does that statement say, (geek voice) "... and they share so many power, drivetrain, suspension, and other components which would lead one to conclude that they are identicle automobiles with minor cosmetic differences..." They are built on the same platform (F-Body) AS PER GM, and share enough components or have components that are similar enough that a person knowledgable on one may be able to help someone with the other. Hence the F-Body forum.
Poor mans' Firebird??? FWIW I hope you're not trying to make friends, cause that ain't making your case brother. Many people don't like being called paupers... look at the sig's before you go flaming everyone.

Alright gentleman, this thread is done.
Korn, again, good plan on keeping the original motor handy.
Earlsfat, the stray rearend question is resolved.
MrPbody, I have come across some of your threads in the past in other parts of the forums. Thus, I know your knowledgeable and know what your saying. However, the trend across AF if you haven't noticed is share the wealth between the vehilces of the same platform type, especially true among GM vehicles. The Camaro and Firebird section being one of the first came about because the Camaro forums has more traffic in number of members. Thus threads on the Firebird section would remain unanswered for a duration of time and sometimes, they would just post them under the Camaro section anyway.
Thus, it is done, and is continuing on many other areas on AF so.... lighten up a bit.
This fire is out.
