ebay pretty much dominates most any auction site.

Are you asking about just cars or any item?
For cars the cheapest and most reliable site I would say is online car auctions (http://internetautoauctions.com). As they get their cars from copart and dont have crazy hidden fees etc.
Regarding other items I prefer Amazon over Ebay even though its not an auction website.
