What all would be needed to do this? I'm thinking about switching my car to right hand drive, but wanna know what all would be needed before I make up my mine.

Don't know, get some measurements on where the back screw holes and everything is on yours, and I'll get some one mine. See if they match up close or not.

I've heard you can get a whole front clip from japan, and just cut out your firewall and weld the RHD one in. that would be the way to make your car RHD.... make sure whoever does it, does it right you dont want the front of the car falling off :)

Figure that you need to add in the steering setup in the bay, brake lines, clutch cable, brake booster setup, dash (well duh :p ), lessons about how to drive properly etc :D  :D

Front cut is the way to go I'm guessing ;)

Some of us have it easy ;)

Oh, RHD center consoles are slightly different too, just in shape - they are the reverse of the LHD ones.

Yea, I was thinking that the easiest way would be to get the front clip front japan and weld in what I need of it. I don't think it would be that hard to drive a RHD car, all the gears and pedals are the same, just have to get used to going to the passenger side to drive. Just mainly want to do it, cause no one has hardly done it in our cars. By the time I get the money to get a front clip, I will know how to weld it on there myself. Going to college for collision repair and they teach us how to weld on clips and everything.

sounds like more money/work than it would be worth? actually....come to think of it? what is its true worth?

How many RHD 4th gens have you seen? Just wanna stand out. I know it will be a lot of money just to switch which side I drive on, but I also wanna see if I'm able to do it or not.

exactly. Plus i want to see if I am able to change it over on my own, and too see if I am able to drive one. Also i think it would be great to see everyones faces when they see a RHD 4th gen civic. When it comes time I'm gonna see if I can find someone that gets JDM stuff and see how much they can get me a front clip for.

I learned how to drive stick with my rich uncle, i was in the passenger seat of his porche and i changed the gears, when i started to drive, it was difficult for me cause i was used to using my left hand.... But i got now, but its not that hard to drive stock with your left hand. I already know how to shift with my left hand. I have have several procedures done at the doctors office that have left me not able to drive. So my mom drives, but she was recovering from a broken right hand. So she would drive and I would shift for her. :bandit:

I have also mastered the art of steering with my knees. So when I am on the phone I can shift and steer and hold the phone at the same time. Haven't perfected turning with my knees yet, but give me some time. :silly2:

Yea, thats what i do in NY traffic cause i get so bored, i gotta keep myself occupied.... I just make her shift because i want her to get a feel for the shifter cause i have been trying to get her to learn stick, but she refuses cause she is afraid she is gonna BREAK something! AHH!!! WOMEN!

Before I even learned to drive it felt weird to steer with my right hand. Even though I am right handed. So it was natural to steer with my left hand and shift with my right. I'm a born natural. :smoka:

The down side of RHD for us LHD types is shifting. If you didn't grow up with it, it's very weird to do left handed (at least for me).

On most purpose built race cars, the shifter is on the right no matter which side the seat is on.

Tony

I think I could handle shifting with my left hand. Never done it before, but don't think it will be that hard. All the videos I've seen with racing and RHD drive cars, the shifter is on the left. Don't have any room to put a shifter right on a RHD car.

I said purpose built race cars...not something that started out as a street thing and the converted to race.

Cars like this:

Yea, those aren't RHD either. In those cars, they are sitting in the middle, therefore you have room to put your shifter on either side. See you are talking about cars that are built from ground up, I was talking about, still race purposed built, road course cars, much like any normal car, but completely tuned for racing.

Look closer at the pics. Some are center seats and some are on the side.

Spend more time on the Speed Channel.....You'll figure it out.

Yes I am talking about cars intended for racing from the start. Purpose built.

yeah i mean honestly, it is creative, not because it's "jdm" or anything.. i would hate to have a clipped car, but they are all over the place, just nobody realizes it, i used to work at a junkyard i'd saw 1/2 cars and 1/4 cuts all day long..

i can't see if you got a rhd clip cut at the seat rails, and on the roof just shortly after the windsheild why that couldn't work.... or getting a full RHD harness, dash, rack and steering column. well a few more little thinks why all of that couldn't work with a shitload of moving shit to the other side in the engine bay.

The car would never be "right" in my mind. I would rather see you just import a RHD, i usually see a few at the shows i go to and i'm not to impressed with RHD, some people are but not me. If you want a RHD go buy a mail truck.

Before you get all excited, just remember how much different it will be to drive. It would be really really cool, but just think of how much of a pain in the ass passing would be.

Tony
01-19-2003, 01:17 PM
wow. brought back an old thread.

Velocity. Yea i was thinking everything would work that way, but I'm also just thinking about importing a real RHD.

Yellow. Yea I thought about that. and I think I would be able to drink it. Doesn't really seem that hard once I thought about it, but we will see once I get a RHD car.

i dont think this helps, but i've seen several rhd's 5th generation civics driving around here in southern cali. don't know if they are clipped or not. then again, they could be imported, who knows, i mean with the right amount of money, you can do anything.
