Weak Brakes

01 LS V6,
Brakes are starting to feel weak, pedal almost feels spongy and feels like it goes all the way down.
any suggetions

Have you checked the condition of the brake pads, front and rear? Any sign of leaking fluid?

You may have contaminated brake fluid as well if the condition of the pads is good. The issue could also be a bad master cylinder or brake booster. Also, don't overlook the possibility of bad rubber brake hoses that are expanding under pressure, or a vacuum issue limiting the power assist to the brake booster.

Pads and rotors looked new when I bought the car. Even the calipers appeared very clean so maybe they were replaced as well. Fluid is only slightly discolored, not dirty just a tad yellow. no leaks from lines or master cylinder. The pedal feel is what has me concerned, it was not a solid feel, but yesterday I was fighting some superbowl traffic and had to lock it up twice and it did, ABS and everything. Funny but I swear the pedal feels firmer after the 2 hard stops with ABS. And the kicker in it all, I rented a 2007 Mercedes C230 sport for a week, crappy car but amazing brakes, so thats not helping the diagnosis right now.
Barring any disasters, the Lincoln is going on to Carmax by tomorrow night
I got offered $8350 for it.
