WinXP Home Edition and RAM...

I hear that when you put more than 3 Gigabytes of RAM on your computer. You won't notice any difference in Performance gains when using WinXP? Just wondering if anyone could shine any light on this subject. I have some money to buy one more stick of 1GB RAM but if i won't notice any difference they i won't get one. Right now i'm at 3GB, and i primarily use this computer for multimedia. Mostly online gaming and some video editing. Thanks for any input.

Anything over 2 GB at this point is overkill unless your using Vista. You won't notice enough to validate the cost. Even with video editing, you would have to try pretty hard to use that 2 GB entirely. Spend it on something else, like a better video card or something if you are determined to put the money in your rig.

When running multimedia or video editing full tilt, how much RAM is being used? I would only get more RAM if you notice it start using the page file and thrashing the hard disk.

Not sure exactly how much ram its using. Is there a way to check while the game is running? The game is Battlefield 2 which i hear is RAM hungry so i just figured the more the better. I don't do a lot of video editing but i do some.

I'm not running on XP so the setup may differ, but to find out how much RAM I'm using, I right click "MY COMPUTER" and click on "PERFORMANCE". There you can see how much RAM you have in your computer and how much is free. If you do this without running the game and do it WITH the game running you can compare the two and get a rough estimate of how much it's using.

Whilst the programs are running, open Task Manager and it will show you how much RAM is being used in the bottom right corner labelled Commit Charge:.

I tried that Task Manager thing while the game was running. And the commit charge said something like: 1034m/3549m. So i guess that means i have more than enough Ram right? since its only using 1GB of RAM?
