Hey all. I own an '06 Nissan Sentra S. I drive aprox. 150 miles per day to and from work. (this is changing within the next 2 months) I am wondering when/if I should get a tune up/check up for my car being it's so many miles in a short time. (bought the car in Aug '06). I maintain it well, with regular oil changes, once a week washes in the winter, etc. I would like to keep the rest of the car just as good of shape. Shocks, Struts and Brakes...how do I know when to have those checked/replaced?

Thanks in advance. Any tips/hints are more than welcome!

my car care habits are different than most, but for the average person, id recommend full tune ups at 50k if you have platinum spark plugs. if you have copper, replace the plugs every 20-30k. air filter every other oil change, or when it starts looking dirty.

you have coil over plug ignition right? so basically replacing plugs is a full tune up. you might want to clean out the coils where they plug into the spark plugs with some electric cleaner, then use dielectric grease when you do the tune up. it prevents having to replace the coils due to something as dumb as corrosion.

i also believe you have your fuel filter in your tank, but i might be wrong. if its not in the tank, replace every 30k or so. if it is, theres not much you can do about it but follow nissan's recommended service interval and have a shop replace it. i am however assuming your an average person who doesnt have the tools or means to drop a fuel tank.

Thanks for the reply. I will check the handbook and see what is neccessary. I will also take your advice and look into those things.

.. and no I don't have the tools or knowledge to do any of that myself :)

Thanks again!

you pull the fuel canister from under the rear seat, it keeps you from dropping the whole tank, can be done with simple wrenches, as far as your car needing a tuneup, im at 30k right now in my 05 spec v and i havent done anything but change oil, just keep an eye on your air filter and keep your oil intervals regular and you should be fine, spark plugs are a good idea though

oh, dont go in after your fuel filter until your gas light is on, saves you from taking a petrol bath
