Custom painted interiors, post yours!

Hey guys, I finally got my camera and will be posting my work in progress soon, and let me tell you, masking the inside of your car so you can spray paint directly in it, is hard work. L....o.....l....glad it's finsihed. I have the 97 Z24 with the ugly black and beige interior, going for the straight black, ripped out my beige back seats and went and got the black ones with red specs from a cavi at the junkyard yesterday and a black backliner, $50, cheap. Door panels are next, does anyone know if any cavis come with a black ceiling carpet, or do they all come with beige??? thanks and looking forward to seeing some pics!!

Heres my Interior I still have alot more painting to do and need to get some 6 1/2in speakers in the doors. The other weekend i made all of my gauges light up red and the HVAC

i like the "z24" on the speedometer lance. looks nice, and the placement is nice for the "cavalier" emblem on the dash yhandor!

Lol, can't yet. it's not together, still gotta do some work, waitin for some warm weather, it looks okay now, but could be better, my interior is a red/white/black theme :-P anyone know how i can paint my floor carpet? I want it black instead of beige. I want to paint it without taking it out lol.

You'd be wasting your time, money, and effort doing it that way.

kk, How do you suggest I get my floor carpet black? Also I want the roof carpet white too, how would I go about doing these???? Thanks!

I'm gonna be straight up with you and say that modding your car isn't gonna be cheap no matter what you do, you're coming off to me as someone looking to do everything cheap and easy. It will come out the best and gain the most respect when people see the amount of time and work you put into it. As for the carpet, I would take the seats out, they're only in there by 8 bolts total and loosen up the interior panels enough so you can take the carpet out, I personally would order a brand new carpet, you can find direct OEM replacement ones in alot of places or www.aplusperformance.com has a bunch of other colors OR you could go the cheap but reasonable way and go to your local fabric shop and buy a big piece of black fabric and use that over your old stock one or just use the new fabric and some how make it thick enough so you're not feeling the metal underneath. As for the white headliner, remove the sunvisors by the 6 screws total, the interior light cover you just gotta work out, the coat hanger hooks on the top sides pull out buy sticking a flathead screwdriver into the slot and prying, remove the pillars on the sides of the windshield, they just pull off and pull the tops of the backseat side panels just enough so you can remove the headliner from the car. Then go to your local autoshop like Pep Boys, Autozone, Advance Auto, or Wal-Mart and get 2-3 cans of Duplicolor Fabric and Vinyl paint. Once you have the headliner out and the fabric paint, do even spray lines over the headliner until you have a light coat with a decent amount of color and just keep doing that until you're satisfied.

just a few things....one, i never have been a fan of painted interiors, but i do admire the work that has gone into creating one. They do take a lot of time and effort, but just aren't my thing. Also, i didnt' know that Cavaliers had such a low redline. Dont the Ecotec 2.2L's rev higher than 6k? I'm used to cars like my DC2 and my buddy's DC5 that rev to 8500+, but those are a 1.8L and 2.0L respectively.

Well guys I reassembled everything.....still ain't done, springtime comes, its being ripped apart again for more work, Im just getting sick of painting and putting the car together in -20 celcius weather with blowing snow......mind you why my floor mats and foot areas are d.i.r.t.y. Basically heres the update, painted more, got solid black door panels instead of the black/ beige ones, changed my beige backliner where the rear speakers are to black, and ripped out the stock beige back seats and installed the black ones from another z24....basically phasing out the beige from my car....spring time center console is getting done, hope fully i can get the carpet done and headliner, and more small things, but here it is for now, I'd say my interior work project is 40% done as of this picture....lots more work to go once nice weather arrives!!!

you left the 2 easiest parts to paint, unpainted.

the fust covers on the sie of the door...paint them so they dont look out of place...paint them now RIGHT FUCKIN NOW! or...like whenever you get the chance....like in spring time...or whatever :eyeroll:

Yepp whie painting everything else, since it was all out, masked everything and paintedthe lower dash inside the car, what 2 easiest parts did i not get?

3 actually.. the fuse door, the piece that it is on and it's adjacent piece.

Yea I guessss.....Lance, does an 03+ trunk go on an older one directly? Like one like the one on yours to my 97 z24? Lemme know, I like that.

You can either drill holes in your existing trunk, go to a junkyard and find a trunk from an 03-05 cavy, or you can just cut off the tab things on the back of the center strip.

I like it except for the painted floor mats but besides that its sweet

I hate sunfires....and the interior design on them looks horrible.....yours in general though, good work on it, but i dont like the look of sunfires, but awesome job still.

It looks like the stock grey to me. I personally would've masked off the latch on the glovebox so it's not blue and defintely paint the top dash black and clearcoat.

As for Sunfire interiors, I think they're better then cavs. They actually have a "flow" to them, the dash/glovebox flows right into the door panels while cavi ones just kinda meet together AND if that bastard of a dash piece by the windshield cracks..on sunfires you can just swap out that piece...rather then cavs where you have to remove the ENTIRE dash.

I did paint the top dash black and clearcoated it. idk y its hard to see. i think its a mixture of the light and the camera itself.

I painted:
- top dash - black
- glove box - blue
-middle peice (around radio) - blue
- peice under steering column - blue
- pillars - black
and i clearcoated it all

and for the glove box latch, i painted it blue cuz i wanted it to flow and not stick out. were u thinking painting it black lance?

Hey....I want to paint my headliner.....and sun visors.....I have duplicolour vinyl and fabric paint, and thried using it on the sun visor, and i have beige stock, and tried doing it white, i put about 5 coats, and barely turned it white, and made the carpet hard and crusty feeling....is there a better way to colour fabric......?

yes, learn to paint :P .... it's not like spray paint, you don't just hold it in place....

1. Hold it away from whatever you want to paint about 6-12 inches above.
2. Press the button
3. Drag it across what you want to paint
4. Release the button when you are away from it again....
5. Now press repeat.

It's called an equal distribution of paint :) learn to love it. I painted white fleece red....and it worked like a charm... it's not as soft as it used to be but hey... you'll have that.

Oh I know how to paint its just My carpet colour in mine is beige, I sprayed about 5 coats of white, and it is barely white....so I gave up......how many cans will it take to get the headliner white or red? Also how did you do your door panels? Because its delicate once you paint it one colour, so masking it after you painted it would tear the paint/ clearcoat off and screw the whole thing up??? I am hesitant to paint the door panels...so many worries.....and where did you find a seatcover to cover the whole backseat lol? Thanks Derk, Ill show you pics when its allllll done, you'll be proud.
