Well finally got a race in...wasnt much but thought I would post anyways...me and my buddy with a 480hp hatch were headed to another friends house....driving regular through traffic we see a local rsx type s go by us...my friend says to me thats that rsx thats been beating people at the street races lately...I say oh yeah lets find out how fast he really is...so I catch up to him and when I try to look over he gives me no kind of eye contact....I know he sees me...so I try to pace him...he drops back...so I drop back then he drops back even more...so by this time im like fuck it...I speed up to about speed limit until I hear a vrooom pssss....Im like oh shit that rsx is boosted...but when I look in to my passenger side mirror I see a white ms6....he comes up fast...looks over with a fat ass grin and starts to pace me...my friend says this is going to be fun...I open my cut out and hold my revs....second gear at 3grand he punches it I do the same and instantly pull a car....shift in to third then I have a car and a half...after hitting traffic I slow down....then he comes up...he looks over at me and smiles while shaking his head...I give him a thumbs up and take off....all and all those cars are pretty quick...I have my respect for them....

Not sure what they did to do that, but I bet it was some high RPM clutch drop.

Anyways, stock for stock the MS6 and the Rx8 seem pretty close. Although, after reading this article (http://www.edmunds.com/mazda/rx8/history.html), I wonder...
"Track testing yielded a best 0-to-60-mph time of 6.6 seconds and a quarter-mile run of 15.1 seconds. Without much off-the-line torque, the RX isn't much of a stoplight king, but once underway it makes up ground quickly. Its quarter-mile speed of just over 92 mph puts the Mazda about 5 miles per hour behind the Nissan. The numbers don't lie, if you're looking to dust off local high schoolers, the RX-8 isn't the car to do it with."

I drove the MS6 the same day I bought the RX-8 and the RX-8 is actually relatively faster and holds power better, it is alot more agile and picks up alot of speed on the highway compared to the speed 6, Did you read my review on the speed 6? I'm obviously a mazda guy, but the speed 6 just felt way too heavy and uncomfortable to drive, and I was testing out the luxurious model.
I read that review on edmunds before I bought the car, I like them cause they give very detailed information without being biased. You'd also be interested to note that the fastest 1/4 stock time was 14.58 @ 93MPH and the driver said there was still alot more in the car, but being new he didnt want to damage it. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=37357&highlight=drag+times it was also his first time out, and that was before the new tune on the ecu for the recalls. The new tune (from what people have been saying since everyone pretty much took their cars in, made their cars feel alot faster. So i have no doubt that in capable hands the 8 could reach the lower spectrum of the 14's, but doesnt matter to me.
Also that Time slip was all over the place cause the MS6 guys were bragging about it, though no one else managed to match it, the owner put very grippy street tires (Don't know if you count that as a mod, cause i would since it's not the stock tires) and he did a 5k clutch drop, which is something not many people would do, especially with a redline of 5500. Bottem line is that in most cases, unless somone is very willing to kil their clutch for a street race of drag race where you don't win anything, the RX would catch the MS6 by 60, assuming the MS6 got a good launch.
the MS6 was my 2nd choice after the 8 cause they were the same price, both 28K and I like to have people in my car with me, but when I drove it I was like, "forget it. My jetta is more fun to drive than this cow."

And that is why, from a roll the 8 will hang much better to the srt than a speed 6 will, especially if the owner of the 8 kept the revs above 4.5k when you guys started the race. To launch the 8 owner would have to launch at 6 or 7k to get a good launch, good thing we have very strong trannies. it is like a 1/2-1 car difference from a dig between the 8 and speed6 but from a roll that difference gets bigger.

yeah, the speed 6 is built for comfort, which the 8 has more of, while the 8 is more of a track car.

Blah, RX-8's are slow. Sorry Gotian, but it's the sad truth. Think Matt posted the slowest time for the Mazdaspeed 6 so you wouldn't feel soo bad. Here are some times for the mazdaspeed 6 from Car And Driver:
http://www.caranddriver.com/features/12244/2007-mazdaspeed-6.html
Here are the times for the RX-8:
http://www.caranddriver.com/longroadtests/9838/long-term-test-mazda-rx-8-page4.html
6 tenths of a second is huge. Heck, that's also with a worn in RX8. Wonder what the 6 would run if it had some break in miles.
Good kill on the MS6 209.

And I've driven the Rx-8, smooth car with a comfortable ride. But it didn't plant me in my seat. For the money, I'd go elsewere for my 4-door saloon jollies. Something with All-Wheel Drive infact.

and 2000ls1 compared to a TA alot of things are slow:icon16: but again, as ive said many many times before, the 8 shines on those corners and its alot more fun than straight straight straight and the occasional left turn.

Ha, our 1/4 mile track is a right turn at the end, thank you very much.
F-body's can turn, they just do it with a very tail out attitude. My Z28 was great fun when it wasn't broken, or at the gas pump getting it's share of high octane.
There's nothing better in this world than sliding the ass end of your car around with your mother in the car. She says things that would even embarass me to say. Good times.

sounds good, but the 8 does the same, very easy to get that tail out. People think cause the torque numbers are low that it doesnt have enought to get the tail out but they are very wrong.

yeah, the tires suck, I was thinking later to go for 245/45/r18 yokohamas, but ive been told by other people who upgraded their tires that it still kicks out alot especially for my model, the sport package (or type-s in japan), cause we have traction control.

That makes no sense, why would traction control have anything to do with it? Obviously to slide around, you would have to turn it off anyways, and if you could slide around with it on, then it's obviously not doing it's job and should probably be looked at by the dealer.

the thing about our traction control is that you can slide with it on but if it senses that you cannot control it while its on then it will kick in. Also there are 3 stages to our traction control, on, dsc (dynamic stability control) which allows you to kick out the tail and make the car more aggressive but will still kick in the traction control if you completely spin out, in otherwords it will help you stop once youve spun out, and finally traction off (which is where everything comes off) That is the way the traction control works on the sport model. And Ive experienced all three first hand.

I've heard the RX-8 handles well. I don't debate on it's handling limits at all. Obviously it corners well. I just think Mazda was beyond stupid in not making a forced induction model. Your car would be great if you mounted on an S/C. It would have low end grunt, and also have top end frenzy.
I'd do that and maybe some polyurethane bushings.

i'd rather go with the turbo kit producing 400whp reliably that the stage 3 supercharger putting down about 315whp also reliably.

thats a lie, its not boost cut, the boost tapers off down to 11 psi because the turbo is very small and designed for doing that. It spools very quick and lets off quickly. That chip probably allows you to run higher boost, which I doubt it's covered under warrenty.

the MS3 does suffer from the same problem but it is alot lighter (about 500 pounds) but it also doesnt have the launching capabilities that the MS6 has or the handling of the RX-8, But it is a good combination cause it has the power and does handle pretty well. The 3 would definately beat the 8 in a straight but the 8 still beats it on the course.

Yea Im trying to get my friend to buy a RX8, but hes hung up on the MS3 right now. I think once he drives them both back to back he'll see the beauty that is RWD.

the thing is if he is like most americans than he will go for the car with the higher numbers, whether it be 1/4 times or hp and tq. The only way he'd buy one is if he really appreciates the car and enjoys going sideways.

when in the market of buying those two cars it all comes down to what you are acually buying the car for....they are both so different the price is deffinately a difference....performance...handling...comfort...e ct...if it was my choice between the two I would choose the ms3....because
1. Im not big on rotary but I do love the FC...hmmm oxymoron(sp)
2. Wouldnt be able to enjoy the handling as much where I live plus I have a bike for the twistys.
3. Not enough power for me im more of a straight kind of guy lol
4. If I was to get a car like that it would be a true 2 seater
5. Price....
But all and all the RX8 is a great car but just not for me....

price isnt much more than a MS3 GT package, the MS3 GT costs 25k and base model 8 is 26k and honestly the ride comfort and interior is alot better than the MS3

a LOT of people that buy sports cars do it for the image rather than the performance. that's why you see so many v6 mustangs and f-bodies around. the average consumer would be like "cool a mustang!" and not even know the difference between a 180hp v6 and a blown cobra putting down close to 400 to the wheels. and some ppl buy 4cyl. grand ams instead of v6's because they want that "grand am image"
