Hey all- just thought that I would share this with you all. We all know that the JDM B series cable transmissions (Y1,S1,J1..possibly YS1 too but i think that was from the US 92-93 GS-R) are prone to grinding. The synchros love to give out on us after a constant 8k poundings :D . I tried draining my trans fluid, and filled it up w/ Honda Manual trans fluid. It still grinded A LOT. I tried Redline 10W30 in there and it grinded even worse. I then got a tip to put in GM SYNCHROMESH trans fluid. let me tell you, I barely grind at all now. It is great. My car is raceable again. (i actually did this a while ago, but just remembered about it for some reason) Has anyone tried this? i have also heard that that thick Lucas stuff is supposed to be good as well. Anyways, I highly recommend GM SYNCHROMESH fluid to anyone with a grinding trans due to synchros. it worked for me :) later

I havent done this YET, but i am gonna do this, to both my Tranny and Engine. But i am gonna use the Lucas stuff, my Friend with the 240 SX was running on 3 cylinders and then we put in some Lucas Oil shit and BAM, he was runnin on all 4 and it runs so much better! This is a temp untill he gets his SR20DET (Nissan Silvia S13 Engine) this winter....

thanks for the tip Fishcat! I recently replaced my tranny fluid, and it grinds just as much as it used to, so I'm gonna have to give the GM Synchromesh a try!

Ok, In honda trannys most shops will put automatic tranny fluid in then to keep them quiet and to stop the grinding. I dont know what it is with honda trannys but it works great. Of course Im refering to a standard shift tranny (4,5speed). My Si tranny was grinding and I did put in auto tranny fluid in after a guy I know that works at honda told me about it. It makes so much difference.
Dex/mercon type tranny fluid.
