83 accord problems

I had bought an 83 accord for a friend in need, and didn't like the way it was running so my friend and I decided to replace the spark plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. It ran a little better after doing so, but we still weren't happy with the way it ran. My friend started messing with adjustments on the carborator, and ended up messing with the auxillary float adjustment screw on the Keihin carb, and flooded it to the point where we couldn't get the car started again. the engine got too cold, and the choke engaged which filled the primary barrell up with fuel, does anyone have any information on how to get the adjustments right so we can get the car running again?:banghead:

Jeez...where are you guys finding these fossils this weekend? The last one wanted points gap for '79...

I can't think of anywhere online to find this info...my only suggestion is to buy a carb rebuild kit for it, and look at the intructions and do the float level adjustment procedure...

I learned long ago not to play with Honda carbs, except to rebuild or replace them....

so what was the problem in the first place? Bad idle, or off-idle performance? Didja see if the carb was loose at the base? Sometimes the gasket shrinks up and lets it suck air under it, makes them hard to start and stall or run rough at idle...

the original problem is bad idling, and rough starting....we've tried running the carburetor out of gas, and reseting the bowl levels, and now its dumping fuel from the vent at the top of the carb into the barrell, and flooding it. Could the choke be the problem?

No, sounds like you went too low with the float, now the needle is stuck open, so it's not metering fuel to the bowl, just filling it until it overflows out the vent.

Try putting the adjustment back where it was, then tap the carb with a hammer in the area around where the fuel line enters...sometimes this will make a stuck needle valve break free and seat again...otherwise, you'll have to seperate the top and repair it..God help you...:uhoh:

It works exactly like a toilet...float comes up to a certain point, pushes a valve closed, stops the fuel from entering.

You know how if the float gets stuck or the chain falls off in the toilet, it just keeps running over?

I found this, wrong year range but probably close enough.

You can probably take the whole adjuster out and pull the valve and seat out and free it up....then adjust it correctly.

If you somehow ruined it by over adjusting, you probably can get the needle and seat seperately from a good parts store like NAPA....they used to stock carb parts individually, maybe not so much any more, since there hasn't been a car built with a carb in about 15 years...
