has anyone replaced the oil pan on a 2001 chevy malibu? how hard is this to do? do you have to take anything apart to get to the oil pan? is it possible to do this with the engine in the car?

Question - why do you need to replace the oil pan? Is there a hole in it?

Yes, it is cracked. I need to replace the oil pan and gasket. I cannot find my manual for anything.

You need to remove your drivebelt, A/C compressor, exhaust manifold brace, radiator outlet pipe and thermostat, oil level sensor, plastic flywheel/driveplate inspection cover, and unclip the right front brake line from the frame. Also you may need to raise the engine and remove the engine mount strut and bracket from the front of the oil pan. Looks like too much work to try at home. I'd pay the dealership to do it.
