Hey guys,
Back, with some 'ol s'kool MUSCLE...........:licka:
I'm giving my eyes a hand here...started on one of my 1/12 projects..Bigger = easier to work on, also means heaps of latitude for detail....
It's Revell-Mongrams big 1969 Chevy Camaro....A great kit, which just begs for some extra details..
My choice of direction with this, is heavily swayed by the fact, I fell in love (lust..??) with the real 1:1 car, first time I laid eyes on it, about 2 years ago.
It was in the hands of a collecter, but I beleive it has just changed hands fairly recently..??
Research even went as far as emailing Joel Rosen (BALDWIN MOTION) looking for detailed info on the car.....:screwy: .......But hey, if you're gonna do something right, do it right first time..:)
The car in question, is the ZLX 427 Phase 3
This orange BEAST, left the factory..fully loaded...BIG block 427, alloy heads, high compression, tunnel rammed with twin Dominator carbs....600HP, off the showroom floor.....Low 11 sec quarters @ 130 + MPH........This thing spelled HORSEPOWER !!!!!!!
Anyway, enough history...here's the plan......
The kit is a Z28..Ok, small block 302..traded for a 427 from the Revell Vette. Good starting point I thought...I cut the bellhousing/box off the 427, as the SB one is better detailed. The bellhousing was fashioned into a LAKEWOOD scattershield (heaps of putty and sanding..) The tunnel ram (from SB) was lengthened and widened to suit the bigger motor. The Dominators may prove a challenge...get to them later.....
The real car used the base option interior, so that will need to be altered, as the kit has the de-luxe optioned interior....
Working suspension will be added, coil springs in front, brass strip leaves in back...plus the finned diff cover..aka BM...
Here's a start.....more to come....

Great project. :smokin: I say if your going to do it then do it right. If your going to build a spacific car then do all the research you need to get it right. I'm guessing that you are going to paint it hugger orange? Does the 1:1 have a stripe or not? I am looking forward to seeing to kind of detail your talking about and will be watching this for as long as it takes. These old muscle cars are my passion, pretty much all I build. I need this kit, I just wish somebody made a firebird this size.:frown:

it wouldn't be impossible to convert from the Camaro to the Firebird. as the only MAJOR difference was the front end of the car

I thought about that, the front end and hood would be difficult. The tail lights shouldn't be that hard to modify.

Mate, your hearts in the right spot....I love the old American Muscle with a passion as well..sometimes wish I'd been bourne there.......
Mate, yes HUGGER ORANGE it will be, with the black stripe up the hood, down across the rear....
My research has been a thorough as the web would allow....darn hard car to find info on.....but I was fortunate enough to meet two very good people (online, through a Motion forum) who supplied me with tons of personal photos of the car, which had been snapped at a show......:) Without their help, I'm sure the project would still be a dream.........
Here's a pic I've had for quite some time, actually used it for my desktop....I got it way back, before I got all my recent info...It's not very clear, sorry..but you'll notice the date, April 2004......been wanting to do this longer than I thought.......A 1/25 version is in the foreground, this was my first objective, before swinging thoughts to 1/12.........Must get the small one finished one day too....
Thanks for your interest mate, stay tuned.....

PS: You can still get the Otaki-Dyushu Pontiac.....Often pop up on ebay, though, they are getting dearer, as they become harder to find....
I think they represent a '70-71.....????
One of them is on my "to get" list.......
