1997 Silverado Won't Start

97 Silverado with 5.7 litre engine, truck was running like a top with 130,000 miles. Then out of the blue, it won't start. It fires and almost starts but won't (does diesel a bit). Sometimes it cranks hard and almost locks up, like the timing is off, then it cranks normally. Tried starting fluid, carb cleaner, and gasoline in throttle body to no avail. Changed plugs. Cap and wires are one year old.
Am wondering if timing could have jumped? Or some sort of electronic module has failed? Have been reading a lot of posts about fuel issues but doesn’t the fact that it won’t start with fuel poured in the throttle body eliminate fuel as the culprit? Thanks for the help. Frank L.

Welcome to AF. What is the fuel pressure ( need 60-65), do you have good strong spark, these are the required basic diagnostics here.

You know what...never mind. I fixed it myself. In the post I had a specific question about putting fuel directly in the throttle body. I recieved a reply on my original post in 40 minutes. Here we are a week later and I'm still being shunned by the power tripping pre-madanas that run this site because I of my non compliance with checking the fuel pressure. The guys with the nice warm shops with all the amenities, training, ect. I'm out here on the road in zero deg weather and a foot of snow and I can't get a simple answer to a simple question. Thanks for nothing.
