93 LX 2.3 ignition problem, HELP?

'93 LX 2.3 dual spark, dual coil, weird problem. Tach only reads about half value ie: 2500 rpm reads 1250 or so. Check Engine light is on. Steps taken to correct: Found there is no spark coming from front coil plugs for cyl's 1 & 4. Thinking was faulty coil, replaced. Problem still exists. Found is pre OBDII so have not taken to shop for diagnosis yet. Question. does the crank positioning sensor have sensors for BOTH coils separately ie: 8 magnets? Or do both plugs for each cylinder fire simultaneously from 1 impulse to both coils? Could it be CPS or would this be an ECM issue?
Thanks in advance.

Is your vehicle idling rough? The engine only has one CPS for both coil packs. One side runs for the primary explosion and the other is more for excess burn off

Actually it is still rather smooth. The major performance impact I'm seeing is when you're just coming off idle under a light load it appears to stumble a bit as it goes up through about 2200-3000. After then it smooths back down. Now, if you're on the gas hard (heavy load) even just off idle she's fairly smooth. I have noticed mileage is down a little bit. At this point its more of a nuisance than anything else, I'm just trying to prevent it from worsening.
Could it then be the ECM?

Could it then be the ECM? Have you found the problem yet ? I am having the exact same problem.
